Republicans Ahead In All Three New Hampshire Races
Congressional Quarterly ^ | April 30, 2010 | Shira Toeplitz

Posted on 04/30/2010 4:09:38 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

A new poll from University of New Hampshire gives Republicans the edge in the two competitive House races and the open-seat Senate race in the Granite State.

In the Senate race, former Attorney General Kelly Ayotte (R) leads Rep. Paul Hodes (D), 47 percent to 32 percent, with 21 percent undecided.

Ayotte also tests strongest in the GOP field against Hodes with every other Republican in the field -- attorney Ovide Lamontagne, businessmen Bill Binnie and Jim Bender -- in a statistical tie with the Democratic Congressman.

In the 1st congressional district, Manchestor Mayor Frank Guinta leads Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, 42 percent to 38 percent -- a lead has decreased from 10 ponts last february in the same poll. All of the other Republicans in the race also defeat Shea-Porter in the hypothetical match-up, but their leads are small and within the margin of error.

In the 2nd congressional district, former Rep. Charlie Bass (R) leads both Democratic candidates in his bid for his former House seat. Bass defeats 2002 Democratic nominee Katrina Swett (D), 44 percent to 27 percent, while Bass defeats attorney Ann McLane Kuster by a smaller margin, 42 percent to 30 percent. Bass' chief primary competition, 2008 GOP nominee Jennifer Horn, is in a statistical tie with both Democrats.

The survey took the opinions of 512 randomly selected New Hampshire adults from April 12 to April 21 and had a margin of error of 4.4 points. The poll has a fairly small sample for each of the House races, with only 258 adults in the 1st congressional district and 254 adults in the second congressional district.

The front runner Kelly Ayotte is actually a fairly strong conservative all the way around. She resigned as state Attorney General shortly after Governor John Lynch signed a set of three same sex marriage bills into law to which she was opposed.

Hopefully the relocated Massholes are learning! Ayotte has the potential to be a star. IIRC, Lamontange is a Mittbot, so he needs to be shown the door stat. Binnie’s TV ads are not bad. Mayor Guina’s a good guy. Chazz Bass apparently has more lives than a cat. Should be a clean GOP sweep in November.
