Only hours after Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6) announced that he would run for Governor, state Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) declared his candidacy to replace Gerlach in the 6th District.
Schroder had long said he would vie for Gerlachs seat if the four-term Congressman stepped aside in favor of a gubernatorial run, and after filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission weeks ago, his announcement was mostly a formality. But as Democrats continue to coalesce around Doug Pike, the contours of the race are becoming increasingly clear.
I have decided to enter this race to ensure that the values that built our country remain for our children, that we encourage the policies of entrepreneurism, limited government and to preserve the economic future of our nation, Schroder said in a statement.

I’m hopeful about this. Curt Schroeder comes from the population center of this district (Chester County), where he’s won elections in Democratic years.
For those who study the history of Congress, they’ll be interested to know that the Democratic nominee, Doug Pike, is the son of a former Congressman from New York.
Otis Pike’s boy ? Pike is still alive (turns 88 next month), he was the 1st district (Suffolk, L.I.) Congressman from 1961-1979. He was somewhat of a Conservative Dem, until Watergate forced him and most of the other Dems leftward (got a 50 from the ACU in the first two years they started rating in 1971-72, dropped to a “5” by the polarized 1974, back up to a “30” for his last 2 years in 1977-78). No NY Democrat has gotten over a 30 rating since 2002.
Top 5 rat pickup opportunity.
I hope Schroeder is to the right of Gerlach.
Awesome that Chester County will know Schroeder, though I wish we could have somebody that’ll have a little more pull in the Montgomery Co. part of the seat, which voted against Gerlach every single time and has made sure Gerlach never got bigger than a 52%-48% win districtwide, despite a four-term career.
