We need to split Sarah off from the "R" party, right?

Nope, we need her to help us take it back.

I’ve been thinking about your post. I thought I understood, but now I’m not sure. Do you mean they are going to try to force her to go third party?

Read DavidFarrar's post #80. That's exactly what I mean.

I think Steel should resign and Sarah take over. Everyone would go absolutely mad.

The McCain Party will never accept Sarah Palin. Unfortunately for the RepubliCAIN Party, they can't win without embracing her staunch Reagan conservatism and.... they never will.

Then they'll begin to realize just how small a part of the party they truly are.

Listen,

I may be wrong here, but isn't the object to get Sarah Palin elected as our next president in 2012?

The way I hear some of you talk, it's like all is lost. We have to reinvent the wheel here before we can go on, yada, yada, yada.

All I am saying is Steele started out by suggesting Sarah Palin should take a hike until 2016 or 2020. One day later he is inviting Sarah Palin to reorient (it's a word. Look it up) the party and grow it.

Okay, so maybe he's throwing her a high, inside, fast ball. But what the heck; she's a heavy hitter. I say take a swing at it -- it's the only way to score.

Sarah definitely wants to run for President, but I also think her priority right now is helping advance the Conservative cause. She knows that if we can bring Conservatism back, that we have a great shot at taking back the White House. First things first. Sarah will run, just a matter of time. She will take things slow and see what happens, especially in 2010. If we can win back the Senate, or at least make it competitive again, she will run.

Yes, that’s wise counsel. But in the long run, say as long as 2012, would she be better off helping advance the Conservative cause, even by supporting fiscally conservative Independents, fiscally conservative Democrats and fiscally conservative Republicans as a party chair or outside of the party structure?

Keep in mind, if FC Independents and FC Democrats see her supporting them as a Republican Party Chair, they will see her also changing the party as well. But if she goes at it from outside of the party, her efforts may be looked upon as counter-productive by many Republicans, enough, perhaps, to lose in a close race.

STEELE: “Mrs. Palin, the Republican Party have lost their conservative way and we want you to lead the Party. You can fire anyone you want and I will 100% agree to it. Which of these RINO’s should we get rid of first..MCCain, Snowe, Collins?”

PALIN: “You’re fired.” Perfect. ;)

Steele sees a few possible future scenarios, and one likely one involves the new GOP majority getting behind Sarah Palin to pretty much the exclusion of all other candidates.
In an effort to revive himself as “relevant” , Steele wants to be in on this development, create the perception that he has seen her importance from the beginning, and make a new job for himself, since his “title” has seemed to amount to nothing for him politically. It is ONLY popular support at the voting booth that “decides” who has the power to re-orientate the Party. I believe Sarah Palin has that right now......she just has to hold onto it/

You are aware the original Bull Moose Party resulted in 8 years of Woodrow Wilson ?

Do YOU realize Sarah Palin resembles Teddy Roosevelt in only one aspect... her ability and passion for the hunt.

T.R was NO Conservative politically. The BULL MOOSE Party was only a name fitting who she is... Pick any 3rd party name you want.

The polarization of our political system today is ripe for a REAL movement BACK to Reaganism. RepubliCAINS will never be a majority party again.. that's painfully obvious. Sarah is a new way back to the vision of our founders and the Republicains can go the way of the Whigs.

As I said... She's perfect for a legitimate third party.True conservatives plus a huge chunk of female Republicans as well as many.... MANY independents.

That's not reforming from within... That's capturing specific groups.. even socially conservative democrats as few as there may be.. add them to the truly disaffected conservatives, like me and I suspect you... in the old and now defunct Republicans along with independents leaning right and you have the NEW major party strong enough to defeat socialism.

RepubliCAINS are FINI

" Try to work within the party first. "

Wasn't she involved in some way in the McCain campaign? And what did she get for it?

Who cares what Steele thinks or why? As you say, and as many, many of us instinctively know, there is a battle going on over the political orientation of the party between fiscal conservatism and fiscal progressivism. The left would also like to paint Sarah Palin in with a broad social conservatism brush as well, so they will not waste any opportunity to do so. But the real political battle is over the nation's economic future.

If Sarah Palin can win this intra-party battle by 2010, she can resign her chairmanship position at that point and quickly move to center stage as the Republican Party's presidential nominee standard bearer, with the whole party behind her as her just reward.

His earlier comment about 2016 or 2020 not withstanding, I think this may be what Steele is now offering Palin at this time.

Agreed, but I dispute any scenario where Michael Steele
“offers” Sarah Palin anything. THAT is not within his power to do. There is a “new ballgame” forming, and few people see it clearly enough to want to comment on it, but many millions of us feel and sense it. Michael Steele is a virtual hologram as far as his “influence” with voters goes, though, obviously he has some status ( as his job title suggests) with this abstract entity still called “the GOP”. The “official” GOP is fading fast , and is becoming a relic. IT IS THE VOTERS THAT MATTER-—people that don’t take their cues from even FOX NEWS as to who the real “Contenders” are for the Republican Party. Most of the “pushing” against Palin has come from the Left, of course, and we all know why they hate her and resent her. My point is, it will be clear to Palin supporters over time, that an equal amount of pushing against Sarah will come from whatever is left of the Republican Establishment, a political entity that means absolutely nothing to me, and millions like me. THere is bound to be a serious backlash against them as this effort to devalue Sarah becomes clear as an “unofficial co- project” of both GOP Establishment,
and the DNC. They (the RINOS) had better get smart and step aside, if the scenario I see as likely actually unfolds/

What effort is there now to devalue Sarah Palin? My whole point is, the moderate and corporate wing of the party may be trying to say, "Uncle". If it was anybody but Sarah Palin I would say, not a chance. But in full recognition of Palin's political strength, she just might have enough to pull it off.

Is it a political gamble? Of course it is. But things have changed. She is now a heavy-hitter, not a political neophyte. She can afford to take a swing now. If she misses, she is strong enough to recover. But if she hits, she can have the whole ball of wax, re-orientating a major political party in the process.
