I write to you today for two reasons, to introduce myself and to seek your support.
My name is John Loughlin and I am a 3-term State Representative representing District 71 in the Rhode Island General Assembly, which comprises Little Compton, Tiverton, and Portsmouth. I consider myself a life-long Rhode Islander. I grew up in Portsmouth and Lincoln, and graduated from Lincoln Senior High School in 1977. I became an Eagle Scout in Troop 1, Pawtucket, one of my proudest achievements.
I live in Tiverton, have been happily married to the former Susan Brush of Scituate for more than 21 years. I have two daughters, Victoria, age 20, who is a senior in college; and 9-year old Carrie, who will be going into the 5th grade.
I own and operate a small business which creates video productions for both industry and commercial clients. I am a retired Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel who flew helicopters during my time in the military and was twice called to active duty, once for service in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1995 and most recently during the run-up to the Iraq war. There I led a team of field grade officers to train brigade and battalion staff officers at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 2003.
I am honored and proud of my service both as an Army officer and as an elected official in Rhode Island. I have worked hard to build consensus across party lines. In fact, I was so successful at working with rivals that I ran unopposed for re-election in 2006 and 2008, which is almost unheard of for a Republican in this very blue state.

Excellent news! Incidentally, in case you haven’t heard, Patrick Kennedy is back in rehab.
But can he drink like a Kennedy and does he have his own bed at the detox center?
Yes, and he still managed to vote on Cap and Trade.
Some good news. I think 2010 will be a good year for the North East and the GOP.
I am in your district Pawtucket, RI. Kennedy hopefully isn’t my rep any longer.
He looks like a good candidate. Patrick Kennedy is apt to be very distracted given the his fathers cancer and his own rehab. If ‘10 is a good year for him maybe he has a chance.
Actions will ALWAYS speak louder than words, so let’s actually see every political level of leftists from both major political parties go down in flames, starting with this year’s elections and then beyond! Also, if conservative candidates really don’t have any foolproof, pro-conservative, pro-free market, pro-capitalistic, long-term solutions to “everything leftist” that’s already in place through leftist legislation, then why run for political office at all? All “leftist legislation” of the past, present, and future must be seriously and successfully “fixed” to, instead, become “non-leftist legislation” for always!
I just moved out of RI after living there for over 60 years. It is a pity I won’t be part of the electorate that votes Patrick out of office, but you can believe I will be sending contributions to his opponent.
campaign website:

that website i posted is actually his site at the State House, not his campaign.
Unless he’s prepared to raise 6 figures, he’s not going to be much more than desultory opposition. There’s almost no Republicans left in the RI legislature, the last election reduced them to single digits (lost more seats in the House than they now currently hold), partly due to straight-ticket voting. Gov. Carcieri might take a kamikaze run, but even he probably couldn’t do it.
He’s back in rehab? I thought he said no no no.
