Former Republican state Rep. Mia Morris visited the General Assembly on Wednesday and said she is thinking of running for Congress against Democrat Larry Kissell in the 8th District in 2010 or 2012.
And she's not Mia Morris anymore.
Since narrowly losing to Democrat Margaret Dickson in the 2002 election, Morris has divorced and remarried. Now she's Mia White.
She had a set of twins, a boy and a girl, now 4, and moved to Singapore.
White said she's been a commentator and analyst of American politics for Singapore's equivalent of CNN, and she has kept up with the news and issues around here through her friends and the Internet.
She's still weighing her options, she said, and may go to graduate school before returning to run.
In Cumberland County, White was a hard-working campaigner whose energy and charisma helped her break the county's Democratic stranglehold in the legislature. She served six years in the state House. In the 2002 election, she defeated Dickson in Cumberland County, but lost the overall race because at the time, the district included many straight-ticket Democrat-voting precincts in Harnett County.
Since then, the country swung strongly Democratic as President Bush's popularity waned. By the numbers, Kissell's district is Democratic. But Republican Robin Hayes held the seat for 10 years.
White was hopeful she would do well in 2010 because it is an off-year election. In off-year elections, the party which doesn't control the White House tends to do better, she said.

I believe that if she runs, she’ll be listed on the ballot as Mia Morris White. She sounds like she’d be a decent candidate. Republican could do a lot worse.
I live in NC and have never heard of her but what do I know? :-)
She is also “not guilty”.
Prove it!
The story about her family problems came out not too long before the election and they jiggled her district just a tad to get more of the Harnett county voters.
Her ex, IIRC, was a soldier. Could be a lot of negative adds thrown her way. Oh, thats right, dems don't do negative adds.
I hunted for pics, but I couldn’t determine which Mia Morris/White it was.
I’m not sure that it makes sense to run someone from the Fayetteville area, since most of the voters are in the western end of the district and we can’t afford to get swamped in the Charlotte area as we were last time.
