Apologies if the sources are questionable but there was almost no media coverage of this convention that I could find, or, at least, containing anything of not about McCain's speech.
Salon reports today:
As for those principles, well, it was left to John McCain to rally the troops. "You are a brave band of warriors," McCain consoled the delegates. "And you will be able to look back some day and say look, I was part of the Republican Party when times were the toughest. It's hard trying to do the Lord's work in the city of Satan."
And, the "progressives" at Campus Progress write about McCain's speech:
Delivering his speech on Friday, McCain addressed the role he sees the College Republicans playing in the future of the party, the need to reach out to more diverse conservatives, and, like nearly everyone at the convention, the need to capitalize on new technology. We are in danger of becoming a regional party, McCain explained. Republicans need to be more inclusive, need to include people whose values line up with [the] party, but maybe dont agree on every single issue.
McCain connected the need to reach out to the need for Republicans to improve their handle on social networking tools like Twitter and Facebook, a task he charged the College Republicans with handling, and one that most seemed to take to heart.

“and your daughter too”
No thanks.
The fact that McCain was nominated to be the Republican presidential candidate is a pretty clear indication that the Republican Party is already too inclusive.
We’ll be more inclusive...
of real conservatives.
Get lost McCain.
She can go to hell, along with all the other leftists.
LOL!
Here’s a tenspot on Gingrich in 2012.
Hey, you think that the Republican party might decide to be inclusive of my values?
Like, repealing all gun control “laws”, ending abortion, eliminating the Federal Reserve and reauthorizing gold and silver coinage, removing ourselves from the U.N., securing our borders, and stopping this ridiculous “nation building” interventionist b.s.????
Ah, well, we all gotta have dreams.
McCain's "diversity" extends to liberals. That ain't conservative.
We are in danger of becoming a regional party
What "region" is McCain referring to?
John:
Please just go away. The Media is even saying it. your 15 Minutes are up.
McCain is a brown nose lukewarm liberal
Republicans need to be more inclusive, need to include people whose values line up with [the] party, but maybe dont agree on every single issue.
On its face, this says nothing. No two people, let alone the entire constituency of a majority party, agree on everything. Typical political message.
That being said, the subtext is huge, and reads: Republicans should be more liberal, like McCain and the Democrats.
“What ‘region’ is McCain referring to?”
Everything that doesn’t touch an ocean?
More ‘big tent’ nonsense. How about just following the Republican platform....this is the problem with the big tenters like McCAin.....they don’t even prescribe to the platform! He along with graham, snowe, et al are NOT republicans.
” The rule of law means guaranteeing to law enforcement the tools and coordination to deport criminal aliens without delay and correcting court decisions that have made deportation so difficult. It means enforcing the law against those who overstay their visas, rather than letting millions flout the generosity that gave them temporary entry. It means imposing maximum penalties on those who smuggle illegal aliens into the U.S., both for their lawbreaking and for their cruel exploitation. It means requiring cooperation among federal, state and local law enforcement and real consequences, including the denial of federal funds, for self-described sanctuary cities, which stand in open defiance of the federal and state statutes that expressly prohibit such sanctuary policies, and which endanger the lives of U.S. citizens. It does not mean driver’s licenses for illegal aliens, nor does it mean that states should be allowed to flout the federal law barring them from giving in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens, nor does it mean that illegal aliens should receive social security benefits, or other public benefits, except as provided by federal law.
We oppose amnesty.
The rule of law suffers if government policies encourage or reward illegal activity. The American people’s rejection of en masse legalizations is especially appropriate given the federal government’s past failures to enforce the law.”[snip]

We are in danger of becoming a regional party, McCain explained.’
Somebody tell McCain he’s only popular in a ‘region’ as two national campaigns (2000 and 2008) demonstrate conclusively.
btw...Baby McCain taking another round of potshots at Sarah Palin in three....two.....one.
Look for Baby McCain on MSNBC within the next 48 hours.
Let’s bury our heads like ostriches.
The purpose of political parties is to win elections. You have to build coalitions. While I say “Good riddance” to people like my senator Arlen McSpecter, the Republicans are in danger of losing the younger generation. Let’s face it, the Republicans also need to figure out what to do with the Spanish-speaking community in its various aspects.
Your 15 minutes are up, John.
Excellent point!
I have to wonder if amnesty for terrorists and felons is what McCain means by being inclusive. Here are the Senators who voted against the Cornyn amendment , which would have established a permanent bar for gang members, terrorists, and other criminals looking to snag a shamnesty visa. Republicans underlined:
Never forget McCain not only pushed the amnesty bill, he refused to allow exclusions for the worst of the lot. And he unloaded his infamous temper on his mild-mannered senate colleague for having the audacity to introduce this amendment.
Only Kyl's vote was procedural-- to allow him to reintroduce the bill at a later date. Everyone else on this list believes that illegal aliens are more important than Americans, including McCain.
Any so-called conservative who uses PC speak like the word inclusive has been co-opted by the indoctrination.

You hit on something here.
This all comes down to McCain and his supporters making excuses for his historic loss.
McCain is the architect of his own defeat.
But instead he wants to blame the Republican party, conservatism, etc.
John McCain ran on all the same moderate mush he’s promoting now, and he lost. Whatever McCain and the moderates were selling, America isn’t buying.
This should be patently clear to everyone in the Republican party. More of the same that was on offer from McCain will produce the same results.
The only time Republicans have ever won has been when they ran on conservatism. The moderates and RINOs need to be challenged to give one example when their ideas produced an electoral victory.
