Kevin Mannix, who lost in the Republican primary in Oregon's 5th District to businessman Mike Erickson, will not be endorsing his rival - a serious blow to the Republican party's chances of holding the very winnable open seat, currently held by retiring Rep. Darlene Hooley (D-Ore.).
"I will not support him because he's a dishonest person and that's my bottom line," Mannix told the Politico. "I cannot support a dishonest campaign. I need to stick to my principles here, and he'll have to deal with it. That doesn't mean I'm endorsing or supporting the Democrat, but I'm not doing anything for him."
Erickson defeated Mannix by a four-point margin, 49 to 45 percent in what was a bitter primary campaign largely defined by Mannix's allegations that Erickson paid for an ex-girlfriend's abortion nearly a decade ago.

If the charges are true, than Erikson should drop out. Whatever the case, if I were an Oregon Republican, I would never support Mannix for another office ever again.
That primary was a sideshow. What a shame. We just blew that seat that was ripe for the taking. I wish we could get Erickson out of it and replace him with State Sen. Jackie Winters (despite her age). She’d be above the fray and would be the best shot at the open seat. :-\
If you want off my ping list get over it!
Pls add me to your ping list, Mr BufordP. Thanks in advance.
Hehehe...Will do. Adding you to my [wink, wink, nudge, nudge] “Oregon politics” ping list.
It’s always amusing to find out what those wackos are doing, on the Left Coast, Mr BufordP.
***wink, wink, nudge, nudge]***
Mannix, Cannon, FBI, McCloud, McMillian & Wife, and Bannacek (spelling)... all these shows rocked.
Believe many were Quinn-Martin Productions... awesome
Sore loser. But if the guy paid for an abortion he should admit it and step aside. To me that makes him unfit to serve, especially if he doesn’t ‘fess up and talk about his reasoning at length.
Let me guess: Erickson is a conservative, and Mannix is a moderate?
I haven’t followed this, but honestly — if every politician is held to such standards, we will weed out a lot of good people who have CHANGED and grown up and matured over the years.
I’d hate to have my early twenties examined with a fine-toothed comb, and then be declared incapable of doing my current job based on stupid things I have done.
Isn’t life a learning process? Do we ALL start out perfect, right from the get-go? I wasn’t even a conservative then ....
Erickson got a girl pregnant, then took her to the front door of Planned Parenthood for an abortion. He is not a Republican in my way of thinking.
Doesn’t deserve to be elected for his falsehoods.
Please notify me via FReepmail if you would like to be added to or taken off the Oregon Ping List.
**Erickson is a conservative, and Mannix is a moderate**
Wrong.
Mannix is pro-life and Erickson is pro-choice.
Now it’s your choice.
Maybe it does and I'm just being cynical...
And Rockford Files.
Haven't followed it in the past couple of days, because I'm so disgusted with both of them. Is Erickson still denying it?
Erickson is pro-gun and Mannix is anti-gun!
Mannix would never get my vote for anything!
No, he finally admitted part of it was true — you know how politicians are. I won’t vote for him. I will probalby write something else in because I sure as heck won’t vote for the dimocrat.
So glad to not have Hooley there. But I understand she is quite ill and needs our prayers.
