Shortly after U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-11th) announced that he will not seek re-election Wednesday, an Oakton accountant announced his intention to run for the seat.
In a statement, Keith Fimian, 51, praised Davis for his hard work for the citizens of Virginia.
Congressman Davis has served our state and our nation well and he will be missed, Fimian said.
Fimian has already raised over $711,000 and has $662,000 in his campaign account, according to the candidate's release.
I told Tom if he ran I would be first in line to campaign for his re-election, but if he chose not to run I would take the plunge, Fimian said.
Fimian owns his own company, U.S. Inspect, and lives in Oakton with his wife of 26 years, Cathy. They have three children.
Davishas been losing support.
This is promising, though it was expected. Fimian is more conservative than Davis, though how much more is unknown to me. And his wealth will be a tonic for his cash-starved campaign committee.
I’ve read that Fimian is a religious conservative and that’s he’s far more conservative than Davis overall. I’ve also heard him decribed as a “conservative Republican businessman.” IMHO, a conservative outsider with support from Davis is as good a combination as we could run in the VA-11-—while I would have preferred former Redskins All-Pro cornerback Darrell Green (a strong social conservative who would be the first black GOP congressman since J.C. Watts), Fimian sounds like a good candidate. (Maybe Green can run for the VA-10 when Congressman Wolf retires.)
