GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson stops in Austin (with Video)
KVUE-TV ^ | September 19, 2007

AUSTIN -- Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson has toured a Dell computer factory near Austin as part of a campaign swing through Texas.

Thompson sat down and spoke one-on-one with KVUE's Elise Hu. He says he wants to hear from companies like Dell to get their views on fair tax policies and global competition.

Thompson downplays the idea that he's at a disadvantage in Texas because he got such a late start on his campaign. He says there's plenty of time to get his message out.

Fred on immigration: national security issue, enforce the borders, enforce employer sanctions, end sanctuary cities, deport those illegals who are found; on global warming: don’t have all the facts, don’t do anything that would harm the US economy; Hillary: no comment; Domestic Agenda: Bush should have held down spending by using his veto pen; Iraq: the invasion was successful and the surge is working.

Go Fred go!

I drove past him this morning, I was wondering what was with the cameras and circus then heard over the radio he was in town so I stopped and watched Sen. Thompson get out.

I know, not very illuminating but hey, I finally got to see the man.

The brush off was okay. I think the perfect answer would have included a brush off coupled with something like this:

I'm a conservative and Senator Clinton is a liberal.

Draw that line in the sand, early and often!

Could someone post a list of GOP candidates who reject man-caused global warming?

I just can’t bring myself to vote for a candidate who believes that man is more powerful than the sun.

"Is global warming a man-made problem?"

"From what we know now, it seems to be in part, certainly. I think that we don't know how much yet. There are a lot of other things we don't know. There's got to be a global solution to it, there's got to be an international solution before we can do anything. We could take a lot of drastic measures here and it wouldn't even make any difference if China, and India and a lot of other countries don't participate.

Someone forget to brief Fred on global warming?

Here’s some of what he said...

On global warming:

Q: Is global warming a man-made problem?

A: From what we know now, it seems to be in part, certainly. I think that we don’t know how much yet. There are a lot of other things we don’t know. There’s got to be a global solution to it, there’s got to be an international solution before we can do anything. We could take a lot of drastic measures here and it wouldn’t even make any difference if China, and India and a lot of other countries don’t participate.

He said “in part” which could mean 0.000000000000000001%.

I think the entire comment was more a dig at China and India, saying that the whole thing is pointless if they can keep doing the same old thing.

Looks like the RINO is out of the box. These CFR types are all the same. Just open up your borders and let everyone in.

It may be, but rule number one in any debate (particularly with Libs) never seed any ground to a ridiculous premise. It just opens the Ahh Haa door.

The other thread was pulled as a duplicate, but they appear to have different KVUE sources. The pulled thread had this source:

Thompson's Texas Tour

With a different video interview .

Pretty slick play on Fred's part, IMO. Too much of the electorate has been brainwashed into the global warming cult. You're not going to reach them by saying human-caused global warming is false.

Instead, Fred says there probably is a human component, but we don't know the extent of it.

And he says that any solution needs to include China and India. Which means Kyoto would not be revived on his watch. And that nothing much will be done, since neither of those countries is gonna curtail their economic growth. Meanwhile, global warming skeptic scientists can work to unravell the propaganda during Fred's Administration.
