Today's column is written primarily for the benefit of my fellow Christians and pastors. More than 31 years as a minister of the Gospel qualifies me to broach this subject.
[...]
Some will say that I am exaggerating the subject or trying to oversimplify a complex issue, but I am not. When one blows away the smoke, Christian ministers throughout America have sold their congregations on the notion that the only "spiritual" thing we can do regarding affairs of state is to support the Republican Party-no matter what.
[...]
The reason given by Christian leaders for this compromise of principle is, "Republicans are better than the alternative." It is the old "lesser of two evils" mantra that we hear over and over again.
[...]
I am already hearing leaders of the Religious Right say that they will support the 2008 GOP presidential nominee, even if he or she is pro-choice and pro-gay marriage. Their argument (try not to laugh): a pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage Republican is not as bad as a pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage Democrat.
What is pathetically sad is that it appears that the illustrious leaders of the Religious Right are genuinely sincere in the above reasoning. Equally sad is the reality that these same evangelical leaders have already proven that they will give Republicans a pass on infinitely important issues such as the dismantlement of constitutional liberty (i.e. the Patriot Act), the sellout of American sovereignty via Draconian "free trade" deals, massive illegal immigration (which sacrifices America's culture and even security), and the wholesale explosion of federal spending. This is accepted, because it is the Republican George W. Bush that has led it. Of course, had it been a Democrat such as Al Gore or John Kerry that was responsible, these same Christian leaders would be out front leading the opposition.
[...]
I sympathize with your position, but let me be clear. I don't ask anyone to "trust in the GOP." I just ask them to recognize that the GOP is always somewhat less bad, and usually much less bad, than the Democrats. And that this matters.
Yes, it does matter. The GOP is trashing the USA slower than the DEMS. Personally, unless there is a Tancredo running in 2008, count me (and a lot of conservatives) OUT. A SMART GOP would pass anti discrimination legislation NOW precluding discrimination in job hiring for Native Born Americans who do not speak a FOREIGN language.
Buying time, or what you call "trashing the USA slower than the Dems," is worthwhile. It will make a recovery easier, if we ever get a conservative government. History seems to show that whatever we lose to the Rats, in terms of public policy, is hard to win back. In addition, a great deal of damage is done by some of the things they're able to enact. That's why blocking the Rat agenda, or even much of it, is valuable even if we move very little of our own. To abandon the GOP because it hasn't accomplished more is simply childish. If we act like children, we are certain losers.
Believe as you will that it be childish to no longer give a "Rat's" @$$. I compare one to the other with Treachery V Treason - neither deserves my vote. They have to EARN it.
Which makes you a very important man indeed -- if in fact we really need your vote. We'll just see about that.
Yes, we do need his vote. Unless you think the Republican Party can stay in office without the vote of those who still have principles that trump politics.

I never hear that. I never hear conservatives say you shouldn't consider the alternatives. Its just that most of the time it makes sense to vote for the party and candidate who come closest to representing our issues.

Party leaders can say that but I don't hear many conservatives saying that either. What I do hear and what concerns me is the people giving up before the primaries start - the people saying support a third party now - if that takes root it pretty well guarantees that the nominee won;t be somebody we like and the third party guy will lose and maybe throw the election.
On election day, vote your conscience. But dont give up before the primaries even start.
A.Pole, This is why I am calling for a seperation of church and state. Where the church will establish a new status by treaty very much like an embassy in a foreign country. Where the church can have a inclave to practice what it preaches. Where US laws do not apply. I have already written a constitution. Have try to get other ministers to sign on, present this to the congregation, with no success so far. If you are other our intrested email me conservativechurches@hotmail.com thru the libary once a week. I am also trying to created a blog. Am waiting for my federal return to buy my own computer, and get set up. Financing is a problem. David

The problem is that the liberals control our schools and colleges. And that the conservative our moving more to the left. By tolerating and excepting progressive liberal lifestyles. With the liberals running the engine of a train and the conservatives being the caboose. We have already compromise our beliefs for the last 100 years. Due to the liberal brainwashing in our schools.
So, let's consider the party of death (abortion), same-sex marriage, higher taxes, bigger government, globalism (read UN taxation and control of the US), embryonic stem cell research (more murder), socialistic controls over the economy
Gee that what the GOP candidates our offering. It sounds more conservative and more palletable for conservative to swallow.
Yes, the situation is horrible. All the more reason to be realistic about who the Republican candidate should be.
Very good summary, LiteKeeper. I say, no thanks, also.
I've met many people who vote for Democrats without knowing about the opinions of those Democrats. I took a survey among about 75 people I knew, and almost all of them were in the navy, like I was. I asked which party they were, and I asked Democrats to tell at least one issue that caused them to be Democrats. 71% of the Democrats couldn't think of any issues with which they agree with the Democrat Party. Those Democrats said that they're Democrats because that's the party of their parents or spouse. Many of those Democrats said that they're pro-life, pro-capital punishment, and pro-welfare cuts. They were surprised when I told them that they agreed with Republicans.
I like to ask people to take the matchmaker quiz on www.3pc.net. It will ask for your opinions about 25 issues and tell how often you agree with seven parties. A Democrat I knew found that she agreed most with Republicans. Another Democrat I know found that she agrees most with the Constitution Party. Here are some of my results: Constitution and Libertarian, 88%; Republican, 84%; and Green, 12%. If more people take this quiz, many Democrats will find that they agree more with Republicans.
As William Buckley said many times, vote for the most rightward, viable candidate.
>I think I recall a stat that the Senate "cleansed" itself of 45% of it's RINOs. As they say, that's a good start....I'm interested in his comments on CFR.<
With the Rinos gone, Social Democrats have filled the void. Now is the time to go "into training" to replace the leftists with a conservative Congress. We blaze the way by nominating a truly conservative candidate for the presidency. You would be amazed at how many now serving in the administration, and every aspect of government today are members of the CFR.
If anyone is interested in learning more about the CFR, Bilderbergers, and the Tri-Lateral Commission, send $2.00 to F.R.E.E, P.O. Box 293339, Kerrville, Texas 78029, asking for "Who Controls America".
The most viable rightward candidate (William Buckley) works equally well.
