MICHELMAN FOR SENATE? [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
Will Kate Michelman get into the Pennsylvania Senate race? From the Legal Times (sub. only):
Already frustrated with the Democratic Party for putting forward an anti-abortion candidate to run against Republican Sen. Rick Santorum, Kate Michelman, former president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, says she has been asked by a number of women's groups and Democratic donors to jump into the hotly contested U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania as an independent. The final straw? When Santorum's Democratic challenger, Bob Casey, endorsed the nomination of Samuel Alito Jr. to the U.S. Supreme Court. 'After Casey announced his support for Alito, I got calls from around the country,' says Michelman, a resident of the Keystone State since 1969. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee declined to comment, and a call to EMILY's List, a group that supports abortion rights candidates for elected office, went unreturned.

Potentially great news for Senator Santorum's reelection hopes!
That's exactly what I think. It will only hurt Casey. BTW other than his pro-life position, what kind of dude is Casey?
Run, Kate, Run!
Go Kate!
He has the same last name as his father. Also, he has the same first name as his father.
"BTW other than his pro-life position, what kind of dude is Casey?"
All right, Go Kate Michelman Go!
In all fairness, I believe Junior Casey is pro-life. A similiar thing happened in the IL-03. Bill Lipinski Sr. of the Il-03 retired in 2004. He cleared the field to enable his son, junior to take the seat. I initially suspicious of junior's pro-life convictions. Considering the demographics of the district, you don't need to be pro-life to win. However since serving in Congress, Lipinksi Jr. has voted pro-life including against embryonic stemm cell research.
Actually, there is even some doubt about that, or how pro-life he really is.
Outside of that, he is a social liberal or social moderate and pretty much a believer in activist government.
Even democrats didn't believe him when he said that if he was senator he wouldn't have voted for a filibuster against alito.
Junior Casey will speak on pro-life issues in a way that would make the GOP look bad. He thinks raising the minimum wage by $1 an hour and providing univeral healthcare will reduce abortions.
True, Dan Lipinski's voting record has been 100% pro-life so far. http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/bio/keyvotes/?id=151645
But Bob Casey, Jr. has made some statements that made me question whether he was truly pro-life, and his decision to wait until Ed Rendell to support Judge Alito to do likewise makes me doubt that he would ever go out on a limb for pro-life causes.
Hillary Clinton bitch-slapped his father at the 1992 Demo convention over abortion and now he's taking money from Hillary.
I can't vote for him even though his father was the last Democrat that I voted for.
This would probably put the race in the toss-up column. However, I don't think Michelman will actually go through with it. Democrats so despise Santorum, they'll find a way to keep her out of the race.
Ironic that this harpie could be the answer to Rick's prayers.
Rick will be fine, mark my words. He's always run from behind, and he always wins.
If Kate wants to stink things up, it can only benefit Rick.Casey is just about as dumb as a stump.
It would be cool if she ran, handing the election to Santorum.
Harry Reid self-identifies as pro-life, but proving himself a liar, he opposed Alito: the fourth vote against Roe.
Harry Reids self identification as pro-life is more rhetoric as of late then anything else.
His legislative record has been drifting for sometime towards the abortion side, and he has certainly shown no sign of being even independent on the issue.
I could understand if his job placed him in difficult positions, but I saw how he handled the gun lawsuit ban (it was funny, but it showed effort).
He managed to preserve his views on gun rights while representing his party.
What made it comical to me, was to watch him give, not one, not two, not three, but 4 arguements for 4 different view points (he argued with himself, I thought he lost it).
Its probably the most bizarre thing I've ever seen. I don't think there was a republican or democrat who knew what he hell he was doing.
OH...MY...GOD.
Please, please, please, please.....
This'll hand it to Santorum on a platter.
He's the not terribly bright son of a former beloved Governor, and he's currently the State Tresurer.
Flaming liberal on everything but abortion.
