ST PAUL MAYOR Total Number of Precincts 104 Precincts Reporting 69 Total Votes 17902
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BILL DAHN 35
GLEN MANSFIELD 27
RANDY C. KELLY 4816
SHARON ANDERSON 153
CHRIS COLEMAN 9172
NICK TSCHIDA 92
ELIZABETH DICKINSON 3582
JACOB PERASSO 25
Elizabeth Dickinson, a member of the Green Party, trails Kelly by roughly 1300 votes.
In 2004, Kelly bucked his party by endorsing President Bush for re-election. even before Kelly's endorsement, the St Paul DFL was looking for a more liberal challenger to Kelly.
The top two vote-getters will advance to the general election in November. Kelly came from behind four years ago to win the mayor's office but will defijnitely have his work cut out for him between now and November.
Too bad, I like Kelly. A very pro-business kind of guy.
Kelly's support is on the right. We don't vote in democrat primaries (which this essentially is). Voter turnout is about 10%. Kelly's supporters will show up in November.
The chicken littles will show up any time
I'm trying hard to find an upside here for the Kelly campaign
The only thing I can say is that the vote totals for Coleman represent the raving far-left wing of the St Paul Democrats. These people would have crawled on their hands and knees across broken glass to vote for Coleman.
The list of potential voters expands as they both head into the general election - but the question remains to be asked whether Kelly is too far gone to catch up in November.
Too bad I had my money on Jacob...lol
And that should work just fine in St. Paul, which doesn't have the harder left slant of Minneapolis.
Some good news in Nashville's election tonight: The mayor's big tax hike got shot down over 2 to 1 against.
Living Saint Paul, I got to vote. Voted for a Republican School board member and for Randy Kelly. Just trying to do my civic duty.
Also, we don't know which precincts have been counted. Considering the high Green turnout I'd guess they're mostly in anti-Kelly areas.
And, BTW, has anyone seen Mpls results? No one to root for there (not even a Republican on the ballot), but there are certainly many to root against.
So did Mayor Kelly lose?
He came in 2nd place. He lost by a 2-1 margin to Chris Coleman, a former member of the city council.
However, it's an open primary - so the top two finishers go on to the general election in November.
Kelly will have his work cut out for him. Admittedly, the voter pool increases substantially but there is question as to whether he can make up the difference.
The Green Party candidate took 20% of the vote and those votes won't go to Kelly in the general election either.
"but the question remains to be asked whether Kelly is too far gone to catch up in November."
I assume Chris Coleman is not related to Norm Coleman -- probably more would have been made of it if he were...
Well...Lib-Dems are known to do that to there own people when supporting a good cause ...I should know..see my name
