It's official: Newport-Mesa Sen. John Campbell announced Friday that he will run for Rep. Chris Cox's seat in Congress...So far Campbell, Ackerman and former Assemblywoman Marilyn Brewer of Newport Beach are the only definite contenders. A host of other names, including Orange County Treasurer-Tax Collector John Moorlach of Costa Mesa and former state Sen. John Lewis, have surfaced as potential candidates, but most are waiting to see what else happens before they commit.

Anything can happen. I'm for Campbell, as we need more CPA's in Congress.

I'm imagining that before this is over, we'll have a whoolleee bunch of candidates. After all, they have nothing to lose. They can run, and not be out of office since it's a special election.

Anyhow, I don't know anything about the local politics in the area (I may shortly, I'm moving to So Cal in a couple months), so in the meantime, let me just say "May the best man win!"

Yes we do, especially CPAs who happen to be conservative.

John Campbell's the one who several FReepers were hoping would run, right?

A number of Freepers have expressed hope that Campbell would run. He would bring the same intelligent conservative approach to Congress that Cox has.
