Don't Forget to Vote Tomorrow!
Light turnout expected in primary
Candidates for statewide office, House are among those seeking nomination
by Tyler Whitley, Richmond Times Dispatch
Voters will go to the polls tomorrow to nominate candidates for statewide office, the House of Delegates and municipal offices in a smattering of localities.
Are we going to have a seperate thread for results tomorrow night....or just use one of these threads?
[hangs head in shame]
I have tickets to see "EVITA" tomorrow night. It'll all be over before I'm home. I hate missing the party, but we had to change our tickets from Thursday night because we're going out of town.
Enjoy the show...........my hsuband is working late tomorrow evening, so I will be reasonable free to keep track of results........if I can remember where to go to find them (hint, hint)
I'm not sure the best place to look for results. I'm sure the top three will be readily available on TV. Not sure about the delegates race.
Maybe the State Board of Elections website, but I'm not sure how quick they will be in reporting results.
I'll get my husband to take a look at my old hard drive - I think I have it bookmarked there from November.
As to TV results - LOL!!!........my "local" station is in maryland :) I rarely watch anything but FNC or Discovery Kids and tend to forget I get Norfolk stations.
The top three results will be redily available, I'm sure.......we don't have too many delegate races this way - I think most of them are up NoVA way....but I'll do my best to keep up!
SUPER!!!!!!
Expected low turnout makes races unpredictable
RICHMOND Virginians will not flock to the polls Tuesday to cast ballots in Democratic and Republican primary elections, and thats making many of the campaigners edgy.
>snip<
Most campaign experts are predicting that only about 10 percent of Virginias 4.4 million registered voters will go to the polls.
Turnout will be somewhere between abysmal and horrible, said Larry J. Sabato, a University of Virginia political scientist.
The absence of strong competition for each partys gubernatorial nomination is a major reason light turnout is expected, Sabato and others say. Former Attorney General Jerry W. Kilgore is a prohibitive favorite to win the GOP primary over George B. Fitch, the little-known mayor of Warrenton. On the Democratic side, Lt. Gov. Timothy M. Kaine is unopposed for governor and wont even appear on Tuesdays ballots.
It goes on to list the down tickets races, and the local delegate races........and a good bit of the "infighting"
In some ways I prefer a convention.
At the same time, I'm just hoping our turnout is better than theirs.
I just read the results of the poll the Pilot is running about voting tomorrow. Of the 1100 that have responded - it's practically dead even between Yes they plan to and No they don't. (I know those polls mean squat)
Around here I would venture to say their turnout will be lighter than ours around here because the GOP has already announced it will not be fielding a candidate against the incumbent Dem delegate.
(oops hit post too quick)
As to conventions - I know what you mean - however during the past few election cycles they didn't do the GOP a danged bit of good and the primaries caused by spoilers has given Delaware it's 4th 4 year Dem governor term in a row.
Oh I know we do better in the general election when we go the primary route. I just miss the atmosphere.
I'm weird that way.
LOL!!!
Big difference with the primary here and there is timing. Ours being in June makes a whole lot more sense than Delaware's, which is in September. And with it being such a small state, there is no avoiding campaigning against a primary foe....thus leaving little time and less money to go against the opposing party.

Give the voters a break: move primaries to the fall
by Ray McAllister
The headline atop yesterday's Metro/Virginia section was a shocker: "Light turnout expected in primary."
Oh yeah, that's what we need, primary battles that last all summer long...

Governor Warner stays focused on Virginia
He still has work to do in the remainder of his term; he might be back in 4 years
by Michael Hardy
Even as he contemplates a possible presidential run in 2008, Gov. Mark R. Warner yesterday urged his top administration officials to "stay focused" during the remaining seven months of his term.
I was screaming at my monitor reading McAllister's column........September primaries, particularly for statewide office are an unmitigated disaster waiting to happen.
I was the 8th Republican out of 17 voters this morning at 7:30.
(hanging head in shame) I haven't been out of the house yet..................but I did remind my husband to stop at the HS when he is heading north later this morning.
No shame. Just get there before 7:00.
