Tancredo 2008

I think Tom Tancredo would be the best choice for President in 2008. He's a solid conservative on all issues such as taxes, the war on terror, and moral values. Most importantly, he is strong on the issue of immigration and border control, which is what differentiates him from most other potential candidates, many of whom have sided with the liberals on this issue. This issue will help win swing voters and bring new voters out, since polls have shown most Americans believe that better enforcement of immigration laws is needed. Unlike Buchanan, Tancredo doesn't have controversial positions on middle east foreign policy and free trade to weigh him down.

I set up a yahoo group for others who feel the same way, and will have a website when someone who is able to volunteers to make one.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DraftTancredo2008

Mission Statement:

We support the possible candidacy of Congressman Tom Tancredo in the 2008 Presidential Election. Tom Tancredo is a solid and principled Conservative. On one issue in particular, illegal immigration, Tom Tancredo has been a strong proponent of those positions held by a majority of Americans, even when that means going against powerful interests in his own party. Our objectives are to:

1. Encourage Representative Tancredo to run for President in 2008.

2. Advocate the possibility of his candidacy, and remind the media to include him in their lists of 'potential presidential candidates'

3. Establish a grass-roots activist network to work for victory if Representative Tancredo decides to run for President

That sounds great but why don't you want to seal the borders?

Because they can't be sealed. East Germany couldn't do it with a high-tech fence with landmines, razor wire and guard towers covering a stretch of 110 miles.

It's just a pipe dream to believe that we could prevent people from getting in if they wanted to. It's not just the border with Mexico, it's our coastlines and Canadian border as well. A further complication is that much of the land on the border is private property.

It's much better to work on a system that identifies who is here illegally, and removes any incentive for new arrivals.

If you're not here legally, you can't work and you will never be eligible for permanent residency if you're caught. That policy would cut 95% of the new arrivals.

The minutemen shut down the border in hours. Give me a break, it can be done easily.

Oh for pete's sake. They shut down something like 16 miles of border out of nearly 2,000 miles. And they're not doing that anymore.

It was great symbolism, but it was only that.

I'm familiar with the border here in Texas. Perhaps you're not at your location. With the brush on both sides of the border, you can dart across the shallow river in 20 seconds, and unless someone is within 30 yards of you, nobody would ever know.

I disagree, the only thing keeping us from sealing the border airtight is a lack of leadership by Bush

Of course you disagree. You want to blame Bush for not accomplishing the impossible. Perfectly understandable.

You really ought to take a raft trip down the Rio Grande and take notes on how you would secure our side and make it airtight.

They have technology that can sense a rabbit moving miles away. I don't know of anybody who thinks the logistics of this are the problem.

What technology is that?

That's not my area of expertise. But I've heard and read from too many sources that this isn't part of the problem. Do you really think our military isn't that advanced?

Yes, I doubt they're that advanced. There wouldn't be foreign fighters in Iraq if we were.

Javelina, deer, and 10 jackrabbits per acre would prove quite a distraction even if we had that capability.

Man you're a tough one. OK, I'll search around and see if I can find some information. Sean Hannity knows all about his subject, try and give him a call.

I'll go back to what I said before.

Remove the incentive to cross the border illegally and it will stop.

Nothing at all will stop those who are fleeing Mexican law enforcement or are bringing in illegal drugs, but those are a tiny fraction of the illegals in this country. We could deal with them as a law enforcement problem.

It's the hordes of people coming here for either work or welfare that are destroying our communities.

Most conservatives here seem to oppose a national identity card. In my opinion, it's the single most effective weapon against illegal immigration, and we'd best suck it up and do it.

We DO have that technology (UAVs), but even THAT isn't stopping illegals from crossing....

Tancredo would be skewered by just about EVERY Democratic candidate.

He is, much like Hillary, very polarizing. You don't win elections with 34% of the vote. I seriously doubt Tancredo would pull ANY moderate voters and would push away some conservatives along the way....

the GOP has better options. Let's hope they use them....

It's not stopping them as they're not punished when found.

Since when could a UAV stop anyone?

Closing the border is going to be extremely hard if not impossible.

Tancredo can't do it either, so let's not let his opportunist attitudes infect our opinions here either....

What are you talking about? If we see them, we can stop them, as the minutemen just did. And what do you mean by not let his opportunist attitudes infect our opinions here? I've heard Tancredo called some things, but opportunist has never been one of them.

LOL please...

Tancredo is an opportunist in every sense of the word. He knows that he can't possibly win the nomination. He is playing all you guys to give to his (and Pat Buchanan's) PAC.

We won't and we should not use the military. What is what the USBP is for. But you could staff it with a million people and yet some illegals would still get through. We have a ton of ground to cover AND the coastlines.

I shouldnt say it is impossible, but it is very improbable to close the entire border. Sure what the minutemen did was extraordinary and I highly respect what they did, but they only had a small piece of an extremely big puzzle.

I think you're insulting Tancredo. He's a concerned American and not a loon like Buchanan.

The minutemen went out with cell phones and binoculars and shut the border down. I don't think it'd be that hard or that expensive(in terms of how our government likes to spend).

This is a turning point for American history. IMO, we shut this down, or we weaken the country with two languages. I work with lots of immigrants and they aren't bothering to learn english anymore. They tell me they'll country they'll be fine and that the main language will be spanish in 50 years.

Tancredo is the one who is insulting. And yes they are running a PAC together. Look it up. Except Tancredo is playing you guys, and Buchanan is playing Tancredo.
