A liberal leading a leftist, conservatives disenfranchised, film at 11.

That's an interesting way to put it. On the bright side, Patrick Toomey's near-win assures that he will be back. And hopefully, Specter could use his campaign treasury on a GOTV operation.

If there's any amount of pleasure to glean from Specter winning the primary, it's that Hoeffel has been suckered into giving up his House seat for a now pretty-much-hopeless run at the Senate. Plus we may end up picking up his seat in the process! (Yeah, I know Melissa Brown's a RINO, but the irony is sweet).

In a close Senate, his vote can be counted on to vote with the GOP which assures control of the Senate and committees in the Senate.

While he is not perfect, that's an odd definition of 'disenfranchised' you got there...

"In a close Senate, his vote can be counted on to vote with the GOP which assures control of the Senate and committees in the Senate."

We don't need unreliable dying RINOs, we needed Pat Toomey. This was as stupid as if we had renominated Jacob Javits in '80 over Al D'Amato.

"While he is not perfect, that's an odd definition of 'disenfranchised' you got there..."

As chairman of Judiciary, you're about to find out what real disenfranchisement is all about.

I don't trust Specter. But with PA currently leaning toward French Kerry, it is unlikely that Toomey would win an open Senate seat. Plus with Specter cruising toward re-election, we have more resources for Senate races in NC, CO, LA, and AK.

It's true that Specter has a record that never rises above mediocre. But his opponent's record is far, far worse. While Toomey would have had a shot at winning, it would have taken enourmous financial resources to help him. With Specter in the runnning, Republicans can devote their resources elsewhere.

See, this is where I disagree. Even if Kerry narrowly carried PA, I think Toomey would've still won by a few points (if Santorum could do it in '00 even as Gore was winning, so could Toomey). Hoeffel is far too leftist for PA as a whole and was a weak nominee to begin with. Specter has too many negatives against him for us to have even remotely considered him for another term (his age - no PA Senator has ever lived or stayed to the end of their term being elected that old; his "performance" during impeachment; his unreliability on any number of votes; and the damage he will inflict as Judiciary Chairman; and his poor health). We may be able to "devote more resources" to other states, but if Specter is all we can manage to have for an example of candidates being "self-supporting", I have to seriously question why the GOP would even deserve to maintain the majority when all we have are de facto Democrats. I cannot in good conscience urge a vote for Specter at all, his renomination was nothing but a travesty.

Indeed. I get so tired of 'true believers' who do everything to undermine us actually getting things done.

Specter isn't a conservative, but he has been a loyal trooper when it has really counted for the party, and at the very least, he will keep Tommy Dashle off TV regardless of what happens in SD.

Absolutely true. But with Toomey as the GOP nominee, I doubt that Kerry could carry PA. Conservative turnout would have been huge, and most of Toomey's blue-collar converts to Republicanism would vote for Bush as well.

If anybody would have turned out for Toomey, but not for Bush, they are out of their freaking mind.

If I was a Penn Republican, this would be one time I *would* vote Dem. Get Specter the hell out.

The PA Senate Race maybe closer than thought. I believe the Constitution Party Canidate has a good deal of support especially in western Pennsylvania, I live there and I've seen a great deal of Clyner signs.
