Is this a sign of what will happen in Nov 2004? A teacher in my school is publicly supporting GW.

I will predict any conflict may concern the fact that the photo is thanking the teacher for the teacher's support - because there are, in fact, some kids who will tell a teacher something they may not tell their own parents. So, a student might actually think: "Hmmm. My parents hate GW, but this teacher I love seems to like GW. Hmm...maybe I shouldn't hate GW like my parents do...."

Well, I hate No Child Left Behind...it ties the hands of teachers in some ways. But, I will still vote for him, that's for sure.

IMO, that would be a sure sign of the teachers independence and wisdom.

"OMG!!! how rare these days..."

Not really. There are many conservative teachers. The ones you hear about or from are the "union" mouthpieces. Not unlike the firefighters.

That's interesting. We had a "God bless America" bulletin board up in the hallway at the beginning of the year, and a CHristmas tree in the front hall at Christmas, for the first time. There is a lot of diversity in our school, in terms of both students and teachers, but no one complained as far as I know.

You know summer, Displays of faith are as much a part of America as diversity and tall buildings. We need to get a little harder shell and not worry about a few people complaining. Our family is Jewish, but we are in favor of all faiths having their day. Don't much like proselitizing in public places and definitely don't want any offshoot of a faith that practices terrorism and dominance, but schools do their kids a favor by exposing them to the tolerance that exists in this country. Of course tolerance is not an experience in much of the world. America's uniqueness should also be taught.

And for sure post the picture of GWB, he is on a good path for American education. (Hi from south Texas.)

Discovering that a respected colleague is also a conservative is always a pleasant surprise. I'm fortunate to work in a group where most people are pretty conservative. I feel more comfortable with these folks than with any other co-workers in my entire career.

Well, four and a half

I'm a member of the Republican Action Group working with the state legislature for the United teachers of Dade. Here is a surprising stat for you: 30% of the union membership in Miami-Dade County are registered Republicans. These people have been union members for a variety of reasons but they have always been denied a political "voice" by the union. Now, there is a new realization from the union leadership (now that Pat Tornillo has started his prison term) that to get anywhere with the solidly Republican legislators, you need republican union members to do the talking. That's where we come in.

Don't get me wrong, the liberals still hate our guts with a fervor that is a little stunning, but they're gritting their teeth and going along with our plans. In the last election the union donated about oh 5 MILLION to the failed gubernatorial candidacy of the Dem challenger MacBride. In this election cycle, we are trying to ensure that ZERO monies are donated to Dems at the national level at all. Declining membership is helping us in this objective. The union is stretched too thinly to be fiscally involved in the normal Democrap fundraising antics.

I'm wondering if this is a sign of things to come - GW winning it in a bigger margin than expected

It won't be that easy. Bush will have to run a very effective campaign to win. He could win big with the right campaign, but I think it will end up much closer than I would like.

So far, I've been finding in my teacher cert. classes that the liberals tend to make the "hit & run" anti-Bush comments in the middle of a discussion. I think the Bush supporters (like me), just tend to roll their eyes and get on with the business at hand.

Does anybody know where I can get one or two Bush/Cheney stickers for our cars without paying close to $6 in shipping? I couldn't believe they wanted that much for shipping at the Bush website. :(

Did you ask her why she's a supporter? I'm surprised teachers can be overtly political.

Wow! At my kids' school, they're not allowed to have any parties for any holidays. No displays of any kind either. No prayers. No nothing. No political clothes. Nothing!
What happened to freedom of speech and freedom of religion?

My wife teaches 7th in a public school. She is a Bush Babe. Many of the younger teachers (under 35) are conservative.
