Please do scan your Ireland pics - I'd love to see them. Of course, I'm a Ballykissangel fanatic.

Thanks for posting these DoE. They're great. Wondering about the goat with the red and blue paint on it. Is there a story there?

You have to ask Fintan about the congratulations.

So what's the story about the goat?

Thank you for your prayers. Hopefully things will get better. I have found out more about my condition and I will survive, but I am sick of the lack of vision and headaches.

All sheep are SPRAY-PAINTED in Ireland...no joke!!! It identifies what herd they are from. Better than branding. It was a surprise to us to learn as well. Not all are quite that decorative...or American looking!!!

The CaliDems are going out of their minds. Thanks to "bloggers" we now get so much info so much faster than we ever did before. Daniel Weintraub has this priceless item on his blog tonight:

_______________________

Late last night, just before Gray Davis conceded defeat in a gracious speech, I spoke at his event with Sen. Sheila Kuehl, the Santa Monica Democrat who hopes to replace John Burton next year as leader of the state Senate. Kuehl is a partisan liberal, head of the “Progressive PAC” that raises money for leftist Democrats running in legislative primaries. She is also usually level-headed, pleasant, intelligent and courteous. Last night, she was none of the above. Here is an excerpt from our interview:

DW: How are you feeling?

KUEHL: I am really sad. I’m more angry than anything. And I haven’t even started thinking about what the Senate will need to do in order to save the state.

DW: Save the state from what?

KUEHL: From ignorance. This guy has no idea how to run a state. One of two things will happen. He’ll have his own ideas and no way to carry them out. I mean he has already proposed three things that the governor cannot do. He wants to roll back the car tax on his own by fiat, which he can t do. He wants to tax the Indians, which he can’t do. He doesn’t know anything about running the state. So either he will propose a lot of stuff he can’t do and we’ll have to govern, or he’ll be pretty well manipulated by people who have an agenda, very much the way I think the president of the United States has been handled by people who are really telling him how to do these things. In which case we may have to counteract things that are worse than things he proposed on his own. His handlers will probably be more conservative than he is, or in the Republican Party line. Convince him he’ll bring businesses back to the state by cutting more benefits to workers, by unraveling anti-discrimination statutes which they call job killers.

DW: Will he be received civilly by the Democrats in the Legislature?

KUEHL: He will be received civilly. We have received everyone civilly. I don’t know if everybody is going to go to the State of the State (speech). Because frankly I don’t think there is going to be a lot of content that anyone’s interested in. What’s this guy got to say to us about the state of the state? Nothing.

Let's hope they keep their heads up their *&#*&*&es!

Thanks for dragging that in here for us, Timeout.

I have to say, I believe the woman makes a point. States cannot tax the Indians. Unless the car tax was implemented by Executive Order, I honestly don't think he can over turn it by Executive Order.

Quite Frankly, Arnold has a lot to learn. Whatever he does, it will be interesting to watch. In my own mind, I doubt he can get the budget balanced, because there aren't enough things in the budget to cut. The only solution is to raise taxes and he's said he won't do that. It's going to be interesting to watch.

I saw a Republican California legislator on the news yesterday who said it would take decades to fix the financial mess for which Gray Davis is responsible. Of course, if Arnold doesn't fix it in six months, the Dems will be screaming "recall" and demanding his hide.

B I N G O !!! I've maintained from the start it is folly for Republicans to even have a dog in this fight.

IMHO it would have been far better to let the Dims steep in their own juices as they attempt to work their way out of this mess they created.

Arnold will have 2 years to clean up a mess that we can reasonably expect to take 8-10 years to clean up. By electing an R, the D's now have someone to share the blame.

And when re election pops up in 2 years, we'll see Diane Feinstein on the ballot,,,, and the frustrated D's who voted for Arnold will go home to their party and vote him out of office.

I agree - it would have been interesting to see a new Dem guv do no better than Davis. It's amazing to think that there's another state in worse financial shape than mine!

And now, for something completely different (and I mean different):

Behind his white collar, a Queens priest kept some dark secrets, cops said yesterday. The Rev. John Johnston, 64, was a pistol-packing padre who had a stash of Nazi memorabilia and gay porn in his Jackson Heights apartment, police said. But perhaps the most evil thing the longtime religion teacher is accused of is breaking the Seventh Commandment by stealing as much as $100,000 from a Long Island church's collection.

"Even for me, it was disturbing," said a police source, who toured Johnston's den of iniquity on 35th Ave. and 78th St. The Catholic priest's secret life was exposed when cops went to his apartment Tuesday night to bust him for allegedly making "offensive and nasty" calls to the principal of Bishop Laughlin High School in Brooklyn - ex-Mayor Rudy Giuliani's alma mater.

Johnston answered the door in a kimono - but what grabbed cops' interest was a huge wad of cash and a revolver sitting on a dresser, sources said. rest of story

Christie Todd Whitman freely slams former boss President Bush for giving a $1 billion contract to Halliburton - headed by Vice President Cheney from 1995 to 2000 - to fix Iraqi oil wells. "That was dumb," Whitman tells Nancy Collins in the November Harper's Bazaar. "Why in God's name [would] you let that happen? Halliburton may be the best people to do the job, but you have to bid it, because it just looks terrible."

As for her political future, the former head of the EPA says an ambassadorship might be in the cards: "The President asked me to stay loose." After these comments, that could be quite a while. source

Nitwit. And in other news (same source):

Chelsea Clinton and boyfriend Ian Klaus took Metro-North back from visiting Papa in Chappaqua. Arriving at Grand Central, Klaus walked down the platform a few steps behind her, shlepping all the luggage ...

Ex-Clintonite Sidney Blumenthal predicts, "No Democrat who voted for the Iraq war resolution will win the party's nomination." He was talking at the New Democratic Network breakfast in the Bear Sterns dining room ...

More gnashing of teeth amongst the Hollywood elite over the California election results:

On the other side of the country, at the New York premiere party for the movie "Kill Bill," producer Lawrence Bender, William Morris chairman Jim Wyatt and Miramax honcho Harvey Weinstein were pulling long faces over the putsch in California. Wyatt predicted that further newspaper stories about women being groped would result in yet another recall election. And Weinstein lamented: "What's the world coming to?"

And this:

Yesterday, (Ali) Wentworth - wife of buttoned-down ABC News eminence George Stephanopoulos - "worked blue," in the parlance of comedy clubs, doing extended shtick on her fantasy of fringe candidate and billboard sex bomb Angelyne becoming governor of California. As she arched her back and thrust out her chest, she mouthed sexual quips - the most printable being, "I show you my big budget!"

Later, Wentworth, an alumnus of the Fox television show "In Living Color," lifted her blouse to breast-feed a baby doll. Dark Ali has also featured a Nazi-saluting sendup of Arnold Schwarzenegger and references to sex acts not suitable for a family gossip column. link

Nitwit (#2).

Now wouldn't that make you proud of your wife? I wonder which rock George rolled over to find her?

Why is it people think they have to be smutty to be funny. Life is funny enough, if they'd just think about it!

I still have a wide grin on my face...so happy we dumped Davis..My concerns about him was his crookedness...sure, California is in a mess and it could take forever to dig us out but Davis was and is a big time sleeze, extremely corrupt.

It is amazing that he got dumped. Just think if he had beaten the recall...all we would have heard was how Clinton, Streisand, et al saved him..Davis campaigned 24/7 and almost always with a Clintonite or Hollywood star at his side and still he got thrown out by a wide margin and with a great voter turnout.

Lodwick, one last picture of your candidate. She got just a shade under 10,000 votes. Gary Coleman got 15,000 and Arianna got 35,000.

Hillary may have sold over a million books but she did not sell many of them at Barnes and Noble, lol. I just love this blurb from the WSJ

"Living History," Hillary Clinton's memoir, is the No. 10 nonfiction book on the most recent New York Times besteseller list, and it's been on the list for 16 weeks. But here's something odd. The Barnes & Noble Web site has its own list of "Year-to-Date Bestseller"--the "top 100 bestselling books for Barnes & Noble stores and Barnes & Noble.com, for January-September, 2003." Atop the list sits "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," followed by "The Da Vinci Code" and "The South Beach Diet." The list does include political books, including Ann Coulter's "Treason" (No. 41) and Al Franken's "Lies" (No. 42).

But Hillary's book is nowhere to be found. The list only goes to No. 100, so there's no telling where she ranks, but it is below the No. 95 book, which is called--we kid you not--"Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy, Part 1."

Dumb comments from Whitman, indeed. The awarding of oil well firefighting contracts to Halliburton is a non-starter, no matter what the "no blood for oil" yahoos say. Yes, the gubmint could have gone through the bidding process, which takes months, while the oil fields burnt to a crisp and Iraq continued to be mired in economic muck - and then probably would have awarded the contract to Halliburton anyway, as the best-qualified bidder. Make Christie the ambassador to Stupidville, Dubya.
