The title hides the REAL message : Russia enters new territory : for the first time it threatens NATO in the media with a pre emptive strike.
More details from de.news.yahoo.com (translated fom german). The reason for the threat :

If I am not mistaken, slick willie was the FIRST American president to institute the NO FIRST STRIKE doctrine. Thus assuring that we would have to wait for the missile to hit before we responded to an attack.

I think it's important to stress that the US doesn't rule out a pre-emptive military strike either and the "bush doctrine" (actual name) is the exersize of military might in advance of any real or percieved threat against the united states or its interests.
Of course since we have a pre-emptive strike policy it makes sense that other countries do as well.
You can't look at the russian statement and say "oooh bad, they're evil!" when we've actually implemented the exact same thing while the russians are only talking about it.
If it's a can of worms then by golly it's our can of worms.

And Mad Ivan and the rest of the Russian horde flame me for hoping the Chechens kick the Russian behind. I have no love for the Chechen SOBs but delight in seeing the Russ get hammered when they raise their imperialistic heads.
Since the Russians are moving back into the Threat arena, there will be guaranteed employment for those of us who write the books and lesson plans. We just got the "threat" terminology pulled out of doctrine 'cause The Russians are our friends.

I agree totally. This article jumps to some huge conclusions.

This is about as stupid as the headlines a few months ago "revealing" that the United States military actually had plans to overtake North Korea. We'd be idiots if we didn't and the Russians would be idiots if they themselves didn't have plans to preemptively strike India, Poland and every country in between.

Since we have global reach I am sure just about every country has at least a rough draft of an anti-US plan of operations.

Earth to pro-Putin "freepers".....go to the BBC article....read the last three paragraphs....and then even you guys will be able to understand that Putin's comments were a DIRECT Challenge and potential threat to the United States......
He talks of land-based missiles, he talks of evasion of Strategic Defenses.....catch a clue guys....old enemies die hard....its time to start realizing its not 1992 anymore...Russia is back in the strategic game and we better start acting accordingly....
The bear has returned from his hibernation....he is hungry, angry, and armed to the teeth.

Russia enters new territory : for the first time it threatens NATO in the media with a pre emptive strike. And france's chirac has already announced france's surrender, chirac has asked for humane treatment of the french subjects and a position in the new Russian controled government for himself and his buddy suddam, swearing his allegiance to whomever is in charge.

Kissinger was emphatic that "pre-emtive strike" was not the proper word to use in regard to a strike on Iraq. They were in CONTINUOUS violation of a treaty and were masters of deception with an agenda.

Truly disturbing, even to me, who is often accused by both bona fide duped conservative russophiles and, SVR operatives alike, of living in a fall out shelter. I did not imagine that the Kremlin would become so overt so early on. I thought they would stick in a few more knives before starting to twist them.

Jeremiah 50 40As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah
And their neighbors," says the LORD,
"So no one shall reside there,
Nor son of man dwell in it.
41"Behold, a people shall come from the north,
And a great nation and many kings
Shall be raised up from the ends of the earth.
42They shall hold the bow and the lance;
They are cruel and shall not show mercy.
Their voice shall roar like the sea;
They shall ride on horses,
Set in array, like a man for the battle,
Against you, O daughter of Babylon.
43"The king of Babylon has heard the report about them,
And his hands grow feeble;
Anguish has taken hold of him,
Pangs as of a woman in childbirth.
44"Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the floodplain of the Jordan
Against the dwelling place of the strong;
But I will make them suddenly run away from her.
And who is a chosen man that I may appoint over her?
For who is like Me?
Who will arraign Me?
And who is that shepherd
Who will withstand Me?"
45Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD that He has taken against Babylon,
And His purposes that He has proposed against the land of the Chaldeans:
Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out;
Surely He will make their dwelling place desolate with them.
46At the noise of the taking of Babylon
The earth trembles,
And the cry is heard among the nations.
#43 Who is the king of Babylon?
46 Nukes

I think I would prefer it if Putin controlled France right now.
At least Russia would stop a captive France from becoming a Muslim State under Sharia law.

Of course, when we say we will operate a strategy of pre-emptive strikes this means specifically that we are threatening China and Russia directly.
To: Truth666
Could you post the article, BTW? I can't get it to load and that article will dissappear in a few weeks anyway. It's better to post the whole item here if there aren't any legal barriers. Seriously, could you post the whole thing?
