Kitty Caption XXII - Go Ahead, Take My Picture (Humor/Meow Alerts)
29 September 2003 | PetroniDE

Monday morning. WAKE UP. Time for the kitty caption. Once again, w_over_w is the contributor.

Two things come to mind with this photo.

1) Back to work day. As we walk out the door, our furry friend feels sorry for us, NOT.

2) This cat is done with picture taking for now and just wants to show-off.

Kitty watching Wesley Clark rambling his weirdness on C-SPAN

Hey w_over_w, I didn't know you were one of us beleaguered Houston sports fans. Typical, ain't it?

The Texans made up for the Astros yesterday. I came home from the game with tailgating barbecue smoke clinging to my hair and clothes. Kitties were intrigued!

LOL! As an Austinite and LSU Alum, I've been a disASTRO, Rocket (Phi Slamma Jamma), and Luv ya Blue (Boo-hoo) fan since age 6. I thought I was gonna get mugged at work the day I openly celebrated Houston outbidding LA for an NFL expansion team. I think I'm the only person in LA that proudly wears a Texan cap (use to wear my Astros cap but . . . ).

BTW, your kitties have excellent taste in BBQ. My Mom sends me mesquite chips to put on the charcoal grill and my Kalifornia kitties (all four) hang out at the sliding glass door waiting for Daddy to bring in the mesquite flavored chicken. What a "meow-fest".

Advice needed

Have you ever had to give your cat medication in capsule form?

I have to give mine one starting last night, once a day for two weeks. Last night I tried and she kept spitting it out. I tried sprikling it on her food and she wouldn't eat the food. She NEEDS to take this and I'm having a heck of time having her take it.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance my fellow FReeper cat lovers.

Have you ever had to give your cat medication in capsule form?

Oh, dear. Every cat-owned person dreads this. I had to do this several years ago, twice a day for two weeks and needed help from my neighbor. If you can get someone to hold her while you get the pill into that mouth full of sharp things, it's a lot easier. Try blowing on her face as soon as you get the pill in her mouth. Also, ask your vet for any tips. They manage to make it look so easy.

One trick that worked for me was to buy jars of Gerber's Baby Food lamb, chicken and turkey, open the capsule and mix the powder into the baby food and present it as a treat before you feed her her regular meal.

Good luck! I know it's not easy...

Hey MG~

Yes I have had to do this and actually just finished a prescription last week. Allegra is correct, if someone can hold your cat up on a bathroom counter wherein they can put the cats head between their neck and shoulder (so kitty can't kick her head backwards) this works well.

The technique for getting the pill down the esophagus is tricky. With one hand behind kitties head squeeze the jaw muscles so that kitty opens wide and then from the SIDE of kitties mouth press the capsule beyond the back of the tongue.

Once accomplished, shower kitty with hugs and kisses.

BTW, if your kitty is a full grown Bengal Tiger . . . try suppositories.

She is so finikie (sp?) as it is. She loves a fake fur mouse and cat nip but won't get near something that is actually GOOD for her to help her get better. :)

I might try just blowing a little in her face to distract her.

Thank you Allegra.

Sasso replied: I might take a bite if I could ever catch it.

Note to PETA: Sasso's mom let the grasshopper live to play another day with Sasso and Killian.

I took her in yesterday morning originally for what I thought would be a urinary infection. She was in her box waaaay too many times than normal and not "doing" anything. It was actually urinary inflamation.

Last year they noticed she had a heart murmur, which has gotten worse. In 2001 she was 8lbs, 2002 she was 7lbs and now she is down to 6.13lbs. (she is 12 years old, she was the runt of the litter).

I planned on just going in and having my vet just do a regular check up and give me some antibiotics and send us on our way. Not so. I had to leave her there the whole afternoon (broke my heart) so she could give a good urine sample and some blood work done. She finally gave a decent sample and my vet found blood in her urine. She said this due to the inflamation and her being unable to urinate. They wanted to test for her thyroid for the weight loss, but for her being there six hours and costing me $200, I can't afford another $70 test. I said no. I believe in my heart this medication will help her get better for the time being. She's not a big cat and not a huge eater, so the weight loss is due to her age if anything.

I just hated to see her discomfort and couldn't bear it anymore. Pet owners know their pets and know when they are not feeling well. I KNEW something was wrong.

Her disposition is still the same though. She's eating normal and playing with me as sweet as she does.

I love my cat with all of my heart and I can't bear to ever let her go. She is my Little One. I guess I have to start facing the fact she is getting older.

Oh yeah, BTW....

I did it! I had her on her back as I did before but I shut her mouth with one hand and lightly rubbed her throat with other. It went down. I put a little dish of water for her in the hall. She went right to it. She is milling around so she's not too mad at me :)

Thank you for your advice :) It is appreciated more than you know.

MG70

Here is my Little One (all 6.13lbs of her). She looks chunky but she all soft fur and probably smaller than a N.Y. City sewer rat but she has a bigger heart and is more loyal than a N.Y. City DemocRAT! :)

What a precious! I'll say a little prayer for her. With a urinary infect. it is very important to stay on top of the meds. No matter how much she protests don't miss a single dose!

KC ... he was my bestest little buddy after my divorce. Found him (a very little kitten) in a Kudzu patch where someone had just thrown him from a passing car late at night.
