This post makes me want to laugh.
My daughter was born in a civilian hospital, and the medical benefits that I had at the time were pretty good. I spent exacty nothing out of pocket for the greatest gift that I have ever received in this world,
My son was born in a military hospital, and I spent next to nothing for the cost of that birth. The one bill that I did have to pay was for rations for his mom. My wife's food bill was for something on the order of $10 dollars, and that was for two days worth of meals.
For some reason, that always struck me as funny. Two kids, ten dollars, and since then they have cost me a fortune.

I thought they would just cancel the stipend for rations. While I was in the Army I was single so I lived in the barracks. Therefore, I did not receive that stipend, while the married soldiers living off base were given the stipend. When I was stationed in Belgium I did receive the stipend then would have to pay to eat in the mess hall. (A unique situation on this base only.) When a married soldier is in the field or in combat for an extended period of time their stipend is cancelled, they are getting their food provided to them.

It's true. Military personnel receive an allowance for rations which is computed at a daily rate. When they're hospitalized, they're required to reimburse the amount that's equal to the length of their admission in the hopsital.
The part that I don't understand is that while deployed to the field, their allowance for rations should've been suspended already because they were being fed those wonderful MREs.
