In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

deride \de*ride\, verb:
deriding, derides, derided; transitive verb
derider; derision noun
deridingly; adverb

1. To speak of or treat with contemptuous mirth.
2. To laugh at with contempt; to laugh to scorn; to turn to ridicule or make sport of; to mock; to scoff at.
3. Contemptuous or jeering laughter; ridicule.

It is in the nature of tyranny to deride the will of the people as the voice of the mob, and to denounce the cry for freedom as the roar of anarchy.

And Madonna wanted it to be controversial and attention getting. They are putty in her hands.

Homework:

One must always wonder what (or whom) (and how) Janet Reno is deriding today when she gets off her latest mount.

I would never deride the lovely Gabz.

thank you, I know you wouldn't.

I went ahead and took the initiative to join the fray over here. I will be celebrating my first A+ in the lounge later, join Flurry and me over an MGD!

I would love to, but doubt I can today - as soon as hubby and I finish hanging wallpaper we're heading out, first to pay the car insurance, then try and have a little date time before we pick the munchkin up from school.

They don't get that it is all for show just to get them watching and keep them talking.

But I think Michelle Malkin (one of my favorite columnists) made a very good point in her article, that Madonna's exploitive use of her 4 year-old daughter as part of the show and exposure of such a small child to the debauchery is disgusting. In fact, she correctly points out that the irresponsible "parenting" involved in putting a small child in the midst of the vulgar display is more offensive than the writhing, sapphic performance itself.

Wasn't "deride" a red pickup truck the last time we heard from her? Has she (ahem) switched "derides" in mid-scream, oops, I mean "stream"?

To bad you can't join us. We will just have to pick up the slack for you. Do enjoy the "date" time, I am sure you and hubby don't get enough of it!

Her daughter is 6 but Michelle's point is still valid and would be even if she was 16.

Thank you, for some reason I thought 4 even though I had read the article. I saw after posting that she is 6. Still, prancing a 6 y/o child around in an outfit labeling her a "boytoy" is a disgusting invitation to pedophilia.

I honestly didn't even notice her daughter on stage during the show. Did they actually show her on TV? I watched it but don't remember that part.

The Germans are begging us to deride them, especially when they start singing Springtime for Hitler.
