The Guild 9-3-2003 Chilly Hilly
SeattlePI ^ | 9-3-2003 | Cecelia Goodnow

Posted on 09/02/2003 9:13:35 PM PDT by BigWaveBetty

Insiders say a certain social hypothermia has developed between supermodel Christie Brinkley and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. (They deny it and proclaim deep mutual affection.) The scoop is that a year ago, Clinton agreed to speak at a benefit for Brinkley's charity, the Star

Foundation, with the understanding a Hillary fund-raiser would precede the event -- but no fund-raiser took place. Although Clinton came, Brinkley reportedly felt she left too early. Now Brinkley and her husband, Peter Cook, have declined an invitation to join the board of an unrelated Clinton fund-raiser -- an act seen as a slap in the face. "They'll never be asked again," one insider fumed.

Hilly is chilly because she was stiffed out of campaign cash? Nahhhhhh, couldn't be!

More from the party of the working man, the little guy, the true American, etc.:

Members of Congress often use weekend plane trips back to their districts as a way to unwind after a hectic bout of lawmaking. Which could explain why Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) demanded a whole row of seats to herself on a recent Continental flight from Washington to Houston. Jackson Lee usually gets first-class upgrades from the airline. But on this particular flight first class was full. After cabin attendants delivered the bad news and showed her to the coach section, Jackson Lee exploded, said one witness.

“When she saw that she had to sit with other people, she started shouting that she was in Congress and worked hard. She was really loud. Everybody in the plane could hear.”

Frequent flyers say that such outbursts are common whenever Jackson Lee is on board. The Continental crew seemed to take the whole situation in stride. Attendants scurried around to find her other accommodations, and once Jackson Lee got her own row of seats she quieted down. Later in the flight she even paid a friendly visit to the people she had refused to sit with. According to a nearby passenger, Jackson Lee “handed out her business cards and invited them to stop by her office.” The Hill

That's the perfect word for someone like Clinton, whom some psychiatrists have characterized as sociopathic. There never has been anything of value to him but himself and the gratification of his ego (achieving higher and higher political office) or sexual gratification (achieving that even through rape), irrespective of those hurt or destroyed along the way.

BTW, I have a computer question.

My Internet Explorer frequently refuses to recognize the Free Republic address (as well as Google)...I get the Page Not Available page. If I reboot, then it will work.

I'm such a ditz on computer stuff. I downloaded Netscape, but now I don't know what to do with it. (I think HLL once said she had the same problem with IE and had switched to a different browser). Does Netscape replace Internet Explorer as my browser?

It's asking me whether I want to set it as my "default browser". Should I click "yes"?

Bizarre...

Have you checked for updates to IE?

You can have several browsers and use whichever you like. They will all ask you if you want them to be the default browser. From there you can go to Tools, and set FR, or whatever, as your homepage which will automatically open the browser there.

Good luck with it.

Nooooooooo.

IE is Microsoft and Netscape is now owned by AOL. Two entirely different browsers.

In IE, go to Tools, then Internet Options, then at the very top you'll see a box for Home page. Type in http://www.freerepublic.com and then OK.

FR will now be your Home page whenever you open the IE browsers.

Lemme know how this goes.

CNN ^ | September 3, 2003 10:24AM | wire staff

Posted on 09/03/2003 11:43 AM EDT by prarie earth

It wasnt quite the birthday in paradise that Cameron Diaz was hoping for.

Diaz said she broke her nose Satuday--her 31st birthday--during a surfing mishap off Waikiki Beach.

On Tuesday the actress was wearing two bandage strips on the bridge of her nose, which had no visible swelling.

'I'm fine,' she told the Associated Press. 'But im just totally bummed out because I cant go surfing anymore.'

Diaz said she was surfing with her older sister and a couple of friends when she wiped out and someone's board hit her in the face. Diaz and her sister said the mishap was caused by somehone outside their group.

Her sister, Chimene said ti cold have been worse if the board that struck Diaz hadn't been made of foam. She also said her sister's nose looked a lot better than it did over Labor Day Weekend.

Total bummer, totally.

Did anyone catch this? The latest from a guy who says he'll grow his own weed for his kids when they're older. Johnny Depp Likens U.S. to 'Dumb Puppy'

BERLIN - American actor Johnny Depp (news) likened his native country to a "dumb puppy that has big teeth" in an interview published Wednesday, ridiculing Washington's confrontation with France, where he lives, over the war in Iraq (news - web sites).

The "Edward Scissorhands" and "Sleepy Hollow" star, who spends much of his time in the south of France with his companion, Vanessa Paradis (news), and their two small children, told the German magazine he couldn't see himself paying more than short visits to his Los Angeles residence in the present political climate.

"America is dumb, is something like a dumb puppy that has big teeth — that can bite and hurt you, aggressive," Depp was quoted as saying.

Depp recalled that French fries were renamed "Freedom" fries in the House cafeteria on Capitol Hill at the height of U.S. anger over France's refusal to back the administration of President George W. Bush (news - web sites) over the war in Iraq.

"Nothing made me happier than when I read that — grown men and grown women in positions of power in the United States government," Depp said. "I was ecstatic because they revealed themselves as idiots."

Depp said he wanted his two children, ages 1 and 4, to experience the United States "like it's a kind a toy — a broken toy maybe. Investigate a little bit, check it out, get this feeling and then get out."

Stay in France Mr. Scissorhead, your brilliance shines too brightly for us.

HLL, where's that bite me graphic?
