Cool Things To Buy Instead of a G5

"The Power Mac G5 is the world's fastest personal computer and...models start at just $1999."
But who wants the base model? Of course we want the dual processor model starting at $2999, don't we? Don't overlook the small fact that this doesn't include a monitor (could you settle for a 17" Studio Display @ $699? It used to be $999...think of the savings.)
I could go on, but $3698--still missing peripherals and any Adobe software, etc.--is a good place to stop and ask: "What cool thing could you buy instead of a new G5 and still have a few thou left over?"
My answer?
Nothing cooler to me than a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz with a (standard) Leo Quan Badass II bridge. Cost (incl. Sony Studio Monitor phones/Behringer BX-1200 amp/Accessories)--$1068!
What to do with the remaining $2630...

The funny part is that the G5 tests out about the same as an AthlonXP 2000.
Pretty sad.

The funny part is that the G5 tests out about the same as an AthlonXP 2000. Last Thursday, IBM released beta versions of their C/C++ and Fortran compilers for Mac OS X. Expect some new benchmark reports soon.

Apple's going to get my $2,999 - but fortunately, I already have a monitor, Adobe software and Final Cut Pro, so I'm pretty well covered.
You're right about the lesser models, though - they're not significantly different in performance to the dual processor 1.25ghz G4, still available at under $1,700 at various outlets.
With all the viruses and worms circulating around the Windows world, the Mac really deserves more consideration than it gets. At least so far, you are absolutely immune from all of them. The Mac simply doesn't have the market share needed to make development of that kind of software rewarding.

Also, remember that Apple does and has been doing all the innovation for the PC market to copy. So in fact the Apple customer base has been financing all significant innovations, since the PC market is not capable of innovation anything!

There are no Mac viruses because nobody cares enough to write them.

You can have! You can have! $629 online. Maybe $100 less on eBay. Worth every penny and then some.
Nice Jazzy growl on this one.

What to do with the remaining $2630 ... That much cabbage would pay for one heck of a pignose.
