My Dragon Fly and Me
If I could be a Dragon Fly and wing my way through the sky I would never be shy just me and my Dragon Fly!
By moonlight we ride the wind chase the comets tail for fun by day we would hide from the sun our fragile wings would come undone
On darkest nights we would use fireflies as our guides we would dip and we would glide through the heavens open wide and scatter diamonds in the night sky my Dragon Fly and I...
And we would wing past our lovers silent in the night... to kiss their face in our flight much to their surprise and delight my Dragon Fly and me in sight...
Such a view do we share away up here in the air of breezes soft through our hair my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Wow Victoria, I'm impressed! Political poetry. LOL!
I wrote a haiku (now that's funny) on the plane ride home tonight. Here ya go:
truth born out by light
contemptible comments made
poetic justice

Good one snippy!
I don't do Haiku to restricting for me. I am totally free verse. No rules for this poet. I am too, wordy for Haiku.

How Many Friends?
The old man turned to me and asked
"How many friends have you?"
Why 10 or 20 friends have I,
And named off just a few...
He rose quite slow with effort
And sadly shook his head
"A lucky child you are
To have so many friends," he said
But think of what you're saying
There is so much you do not know
A friend is just not someone
To whom you say "Hello"
A friends a tender shoulder
On which to softly cry
A well to pour your troubles down
And raise your spirits high
A friend is a hand to pull you up
From darkness and despair...
When all your other "so called" friends
Have helped to put you there
A true friend is an ally
Who can't be moved or bought
A voice to keep your name alive
When others have forgot
But most of all a friend is a heart
A strong and sturdy wall
For from the hearts of friends
There comes the greatest love of all!!!
So think of what I've spoken
For every word is true
And answer once again my child
How many friends have you???
And then he stood and faced me
Awaiting my reply
Softly I answered
"If lucky...... one have "I"
"You!!!!"

What can I say, but Thank You for your lovely poem. You're welcome feather.
Obviously I'm no poet but this was my first and actually only serious attempt I ever made to write something poetic. The words are heartfelt and I actually wrote them on a scrap of paper one day while I was driving home from work thinking about SAM and the Foxhole and the "poem" just happened!
Since then I find that when I try too hard to write another one, I just can't seem to come up with anything.
I think I'll leave the real poetry to you! ;)

I love that poem. It is so true.

That is the answer don't try. But do write down ides or lines as they come. Then some time put them together a poem to make.
I have been writing many years that makes a difference. Just keep writing snippy, it will come in time.
When I attended the convention last month the society gave eveyone books on how to write poetry. I threw mine out.
