By any measure, this is a boost for McClintock.

Tom McClintock does have a chance, all conservatives have to do is ignore the overexposure the media is giving Schwarzenegger, drop the defeatist "I like McClintock, but he can't win" attitude and vote their conscience.

McClintock Statement on Withdrawal of Candidate Bill Simon
August 23, 2003
Statement on the withdrawal of candidate Bill Simon
Senator Tom McClintock today released the following statement:
I am genuinely sorry that Bill Simon is dropping out of the race. He offered a perspective to the debate that will be missed. But his decision to withdraw intensifies my resolve to stay and fight.
At stake in this campaign, is the future of California - and that decision belongs to the people of California and must not be left to the country club back rooms. If the most qualified candidate must defer every time a celebrity or a millionaire casts a longing eye on public office, weve lost something very important in our democracy, and its called merit.
They said that War Admiral couldnt be beat and shouldn't have to run a race against the likes of Seabiscuit. Let me assure everyone that I am one horse that is in this race to the finish line.

The party threatened to never financially support the candidates if they didn't clear the field for Arnold.
McClintock's response was along the lines of "they've never supported me before, so why should I care about it later? Besides, now I won't be disappointed when they don't come through on their promises."
The State Party is run by RINOs like Sundheim and Parsky.

Sorry, totally misreading this (in your terms), McClintock just got a big boost...
(...Scene shifts to McClintock camp...) SIMON IS OUT!, SIMON IS OUT!, SIMON IS OUT!
We are a very happy bunch, how about you??? Isn't politics FUN??? (or for Arnold fans a waterdowned version of true fun)...

Also, all I see from the Arnold fanatics is that "McClintock has no chance" and "Arnold can win."
Some platform there, people.

People like you cost Schwarzenegger votes.
To: zbigreddogz
I see no point in a thread like this. It's totally divisive. Sorry, JMHO.
To: zbigreddogz
This is good for us McClintiacs and bad news for RINOistas.

Who is the closest candidate to Bill Simon philosophically? Tom McClintock. Threfore, who is likely to be the biggest beneficiary of Simon's withdrawal? McClintock. And as more Republicans see that Schwarzenegger is simply a tax-hiking Kennedy Democrat in Republican clothing, McClintock will find himself in this race.
Schwarzenegger seems to be slipping already.
Will the Schwarzenegger people get behind McClintock when he gets ahead of Ah-nold? Not likely.
