It's actually genuine music from the sixteenth to mid-seventeenth centuries. Those were pretty ugly times in terms of technology and creature comforts, but they atoned for it by their art, which is beautiful beyond compare. I know there's a tendency for us modern types to think of anything old as simplistic, but believe me, there's nothing simplistic about it. For a complete rundown you really need to ask someone like lostinacademe. All I can tell you is that this body of music is like nothing else you've heard before. If you're into harmonic and contrapuntal devices, strong thematic content and good taste, you'll like it. On the other hand, if your notion of music is two or three naked savages beating on a tom-tom, it's not for you!

I hate Celine. I hate most modern Jazz. I like Fusion. If you can get your hands on any "Weather Report" from early 70's great fusion and they though some calipso in for flavor.

I missed you too!

I'm sure I'm not the only one here who missed you terribly, but I'm a little more demonstrative than some of our classmates. (just ask xs.)

The stolid stolidity of its stolidness is stiltifying.

I think.

Where does the "rock" part come in? Would this include Monteverdi and maybe Cavalli?

I like real calypso music, by which I mean I can take it very briefly in small doses.

Hey, teach...
I see all the TX teachers are whining 'cause they don't even KNOW the Texas Pledge...

"Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible."

The Calypso in their music was like a pinch of salt and pepper on gumbo. They only did it on one of their albums all of which I lost in divorce #1. What do you think of Zydico (sp).
