It pains me to say it, but these unprovoked and malicious attacks on The Nature Boy are going to adversely affect my mental image of you.

Somehow, I'll manage to live with that. It's just that his "in your face" hetero theatrics always rang false to me, even when I was 15-years-old. Besides, I had a grudge against him because I felt that he took too much screen time from my dreamboat, Tommy Rich. :)

I lived up north in NYC when Flair and the Andersons, Blanchard and the rest dominated Georgia Championship Wrestling. We didn't have cable, and I was in a strong WWF city so the only exposure I had to those ring greats was via the wrestling magazines and for a while oe of our UHF Channels ran the NWA tapes, which was a great thing!

In the late 1980s no one was happier than I was when anderson & blanchard, 1/2 of the 4 Hoursemen, hit the WWF as Bobby Heenan's 'Brainbusters.' Great wrestlers and great champions!

I grew up in awe of the nature boy, clearly the greatest wrestler ever. By the time I got cable (1990), that era had past and the NWA was transforming to WCW, which was really a pale version of the cartoony WWF at the time.

Just as Flair jumped to the WWF in 1991, I had the pleasure of meeting him and it was awesome.

And you are right, wrestling isn't as good as it was in the 70s and 80s (I began watching WWWF on spanish speaking uhf tv in 1975 at the tender age of 7!!!) When Texas World Class, the WWWF/WWF, NWA-Georgia, Mid South, NWA-Florida, the Pacific Northwest, Memphis, and Verne Gagne's AWA in Minnesota were setting the rings on fire, wrestling for me was at its peak! It will never be as great as it was then.

really? are you still married *wink*

Betcha $5 the answer is no. I know about a half-dozen women who have had boob jobs and none of the relationships have ever lasted a full year after the surgery. That includes one woman who was married for almost 20 years and has 3 kids.

About 8 months ago, my neighbor's 5-year shackup had a boob job. I said "Oh-oh." About a month and a half later he was looking for a place to stay.

Hey NYC GOP Chick, you must have grown up down south if you remember Tommy Rich, for a long while the youngest NWA Champion ever!

I confess, no one was happier than me when Handsome Harley Race beat the upstart a few weeks after his title win to regain the NWA title! Harley ruled!

I'm with you on the Samoans! One of the greatest tag teams ever!

I always liked the bad guys, I confess - more personality, and I could always relate to them more! ;-)

Nope, I'm a born-n-bred New Yorker -- but we did have cable TV, which meant that I found TBS and Georgia Championship Wrestling. It also meant that I appalled and embarrassed my parents that their otherwise charming young daughter not only made them drive her all over the place to buy wrestling magazines, but could also converse about pro wrestling in public. :)

I thought Tommy only had the championship for like a few days before he lost it.

Kerry Von Erich is the one who had the title for a few days and then lost it. And you know who beat him - WHOOOOO!

Turn out Tommy only held the title for five days, too.

Thanks for the info! By Sept. 1983, I kind of fell out of pro wresting as I went away to college and didn't have cable TV up there. I got my mom to tape a few episodes for me to watch when I was home for vacations, but they felt kind of stale.

I always wondered what happened to Tommy, and I also remember his growing waistline -- that may have been part of the reason I turned away from watching. ;)

What a woman - you are a dreamgal! But we knew that already! Public conversation about Pro Wrestling in that era makes you even more of a standout woman in my eyes! I may be in love!

Your memory is better than mine: I checked and Harley dropped the NWA World Title to Rich on 4/27/81, and won it back a few days later in Gainsville, GA on 5/1/81.

Wrestling was much better back then! I can pretty much remember title changes, feuds, and big angles/incidents/events from the mid 70s through the early 90s, and then it's all a blur - too many title changes, too many outragous situations, etc.

I still watch the WWF/WWE, mostly out of habit, but it's not nearly as entertaining as it was back then. What I miss most is that the comedy was less self concious back then - eg World Class Texas Champion Gino Hernandez "The Handsome HAlf-Breed From Highland Park" would enrage Texas fans by reminding him he was "Their Champion!" Hahah!

The contrived stuff in the last decade or more just tries too hard to be funny, and it fails.

I find myself watching the WWE most Monday nights, but I inevitably feel let down afterwards. This whole "brand extension" is a disaster, and I can't stand to watch Goldberg.

Well, I am. So there.

I never actually go through with it (surgery) though. I just talk about it.

I watch out of habit and loyalty to the WWF - when you are a fan for almost 30 years, its a hard habit to shake!

I don't enjoy it as much - I always tivo record Raw and Smackdown and time condense the 2 hour shows to about 30 minutes each. I hate it when Raw starts out with 20 minutes of talking. I hate Goldberg too, he should be run out of town.

My fave WWE star is Kurt Angle, a legit hero of mine for several years and I was pshyched when he debuted in the WWF.

Wrestling for me will never be as good as it was back in the 70s and 80s!
