The new Field Poll will be released in the morning. From two sources in the "Belly of the Beast", here is how the poll plays out:
Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante at 25%
Arnold Schwarzenegger at 22%
State Senator Tom McClintock at 10%
Bill Simon at 8%
What happened to Arnold? Seems like it's time for AS to start talking. The other revelation is McClintock's growth and Simon's fall. If you combine Simon's numbers with McClintcok you have the Senator at 17-18%, right behind AS with all of the boost he has had over the past two weeks. Impressive growth from Tom McClintock!

McClintock has my vote and probably that of my young daughter-her first vote!

Yup, he's picking up,barely, but he'll still lose by an enormous margin.McClintock can still get every purist vote in CA, but when he wakes up the next day, he'll still be trounced in a rout.Does the prospect of such a Democrat victory make you joyous?

We are doomed if Cruz Bustamante is our governor. I am worried enough that he will win with the usual democrat voter fraud.

this goes against most of the other information. But in any case, CA is getting one last chance to save itself. If they choose not to, so be it. They have a large tax base there that can pay the bills at the state level, bring on the diaper tax and all the rest.

Raise your property taxes, vote for Arnold!
Will they be printing this on a bumpersticker?

If Arnold runs on an ultra left platform, he's unelectable. I wonder how extreme a leftist you can be and still win in Democratic California. Apparently not when it comes to taxes.

The Field Poll has been accurately polling CA for 50 years. Arnie is fading fast. People are jumping off the bandwagon.

Look at this!
I think this poll overestimates Bustamante's strength because Republicans will be turning in much larger numbers on Oct 7th than Democrats will.
Hopefully Simon (the idiot) will drop out.

Unless McClintock voters are thinking "either McClintock or sit tight until the end of this term for a real conservative candidate and a weak Democrat incumbent."

This is the curse of running on momentum alone. Support Arnold because he has high poll numbers? Okay... then what's the justification for continuing to support him when his poll numbers begin to collapse?
I expected this, just not soon soon.

Buffett and the Prop 13 comment have just killed Arnold's candidacy. There is nothing that will get Dems and Republicans energized like that will.
My guess is that the Hispanic contingent which originally supported Arnold is shifting to Cruz. Simon's drop in the polls is no surprise. Most of his base has gone to McClintock. And why would anyone be surprised that McClintock is on the rise? He is getting more and more exposure. His numbers will continue to rise.

What is likely going on her is the the Dems need a poll they can float to convince the sheeple that Bustamente is the front runner, and Arnold is just a fad. They know Davis is done, they want to keep the state. So now they have this one, and likely will follow with some additional polls from the leftist media and Zogby that will confirm it. You didn't think the Dems are just going to walk away from CA, did you?
Debate
Candidates in Recall Election Will Meet in September 17 Debate |
The highest polling gubernatorial candidates will have the opportunity to meet in a debate to be held September 17 at CSU Sacramento.
The 90-minute debate, which is being organized by the California Broadcasters Association, will be available to all California radio and television stations.
The debate will take the form of roundtable discussion in which the candidates will answer questions posed by a moderator. The public will have the opportunity to submit questions prior to the event.
The debate will be open to any candidate who receives at least 10 percent support as measured by the Field Poll, the Public Policy Institute of California poll, or the Los Angeles Times poll. If fewer than six candidates have qualified by September 5, a survey of voters will be conducted to determine which additional gubernatorial aspirants should participate. |

Hmmmmmm, and by that time, just what do they think their state income taxes will look like? Do they wish to see their property values decline while the state slides further behind....I wonder...
