In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....
scintilla \sin-TIL-uh\, noun
scintillant; adjective
1. A tiny or scarcely detectable amount; the slightest particle; a trace
2. A spark; a flash.
3. Miniscule
In victory, they must hold on to at least a scintilla of humility, lest they get too cocky -- and ripe for a takedown.
--Bill Breen, "'We are literally trying to stop time,'" Fast Company, May 2000
Etymology: Latin scintilla, "a spark, a glimmer, a faint trace." Also from scintilla is the verb scintillate, "to sparkle."

It was weird early last summer when the 'bot had his braces taken off. He looked totally different. I haven't seen him with his retainer on, though. Perhaps he's lost it on purpose. He sees the ortho on Tuesday, so I'm sure the ortho will tell me if he's been wearing it at night or not.
Not a brace on my parents' 11 children. We're blind as bats, which makes up for the braces, I suppose.

That's quite interesting. But I wonder if they mean "having sex" as closeness of the males and females. Kind of like guys with their sports (even though I love baseball) and girls with their needlepoint.

I love it! Blog wars. Sounds like something out of "The Hobbit" or "Star Trek." True. The geek factor is off the charts....

We're blind as bats, which makes up for the braces, I suppose. I got my braces and first pair of glasses within the same month - I had just turned 15.

I think Dr.Bruce needs to do more research and find out how traits become dominant or recessive. They have to actually breed. Some of these animals, dolphins most notably, have a strong sex drive and will find accommodating partners(look out Demi!) but this is a very small faction of any species. And it sounds like he has a vested interest in the results.

Thanks for the photos, W!
Again, thanks for FReeping the twit. You said HLL gave her a "look." Was she there, too?

I got my first pair of glass at 10. They were ugly. Wouldn't wear them. Finally got contacts at age 13. Doc told me I would be blind by the time I reached 30. Actually, my eyesight is better today than it was at 13. Some docs forget they leave an impression on young children.
