1. To infer (something) without sufficiently conclusive evidence
2. To make a guess or conjecture

It wafted nearer yet, and then she knew That what before she but surmised, was true. --Dryden.

" The realtor who sold us this land didn't tell us it was haunted! Is there a lawyer in the house-xsmommy, where are you? Do I have a case, and if I ever want to sell the property,do I have to disclose that the place is spooked? "

My parents old house (the one i lived in as a teen) was haunted and she told me not to tell people because since she didn't tell the buyers they could make her buy it back or somesuch. The ghost wasn't always a nice one either. It liked to shake my brother's bed and try to choke him at night. It showed it's face to my sister in the same room my brother slept once. She said it was an old man. The old man who lived there before us had been murdered on his way home from Atlanta. He never bothered me though, just scared the crap out of me a couple of times squeaking the bed really loud when I was home alone.

We have a poutrygoose that drinks all our beer and gives us headaches. The poultrygoose also makes our dog bark to go outside to pee or poop. It's really freaky.

I have it on good authority, sir that poultrygooses only drink Irish Whiskey, not beer. And they never tell dogs what to do. It must be a different hant you have...

Sorry I should have been more specific, these are poultrycanadageese. Down here we call em honkies. They will drink anything in the house and especially like to tell dogs that they need to pee or poop.

That poor man had quite a traumatic death. No wonder he wasn't always nice.

Ours is a little girl, according to my friend the ghostbuster, and the ranch family at the end of the road. The family says she was one of the woman's great grandmother's kids (big family) who died at about 9 or so of some childhood disease. She and the other kids in the family used to play where our house is now, because it was close to their house so their mother could find them easily. The chimney of that original house still stands, just inside their gate, and about 3/4 acre away from us. The present family lives in a much larger, newer home further from the gate.

I could be wrong, but I don't think otherworldly things can harm you other than scare you to death. The poltergeist was hysterical sometimes. I would put my purse on my dresser every night when I got home. I usually found it underneath the bathroom sink.

There was a winding staircase to the top floor. That staircase was as cold as cold could be. It was weird. We only lived there a year. Thank goodness, although now I think I could handle it. I was only 21 at the time.

Some of the things it did was curious.

When you "assure" someone, you make an "ass" out of "u" and "re". No, wait, that's not right. Um, in the morning I'll be drunk and ugly but you'll still be sober. No, wait a sec. If you're a socialist at 20 you have no brain and if you're a socialist at 40 you still have no brain. Well, that one's right, but it's not how the original went. Sheesh!
