when the tykle was old enough to damage the cat, the cat decided to go into defensive mode. Since cats in defensive mode tend to bristle with sharp weapons, I had to take the cat and teach her not to mess with the kid. from that moment on, the cat never scratched the kid, no matter what the kid did. well, almost. there WAS that time the kid tried to flush the cat, and was rewarded with an eye to chin slash!

My 16 y.o. cat has his claws, and used them regularly until I got another cat, and had her declawed. He hasn't scratched me in 9 years now.
