I only have one grandmother alive and she didn't even know I had kids until months after the second was born. She has yet to come and see them even though she's only an hour away. She calls me every couple months and says she'll be down in a week or two and never shows or calls back for another month or two. She also claims everytime she calls that I'm the only family member that loves her. (aka I'm the only one who's nice to her because I don't like to argue with old ladies) Even with her claim that I'm the only one that loves her, I still won't get anything when she dies (i know she's got plenty too) because she's always held my cousin and aunt up on a pedestal no matter how bad they treat her. I'm fairly sure she only calls me when they won't talk to her.

I agree with you - the loss is that of my parents', not my daughter.

My MIL died 2 weeks after we got married, my FIL 5 years before I met hubby.

I could understand the no contact with me - but ignoring the idea of a first grandchild? Totally bizarre.

I know they are aware of things and have probably seen more recent pix than the last I sent to them because my mother's older sister (my godmother) has never forgotten Jax since she found out about her.

My mother is that way. My Aunt contacted me about some legal papers and had no clue that I was married or had a child and Jax was nearly a year old at that time.

I guess dysfunctional would be a good word to describe my family.

definitely. His whole family is very liberal. They are sweet and I love them dearly, but they don't pay enough attention to politics to know what they are talking about. All they know is what is printed in the local paper or what they catch on local news. My hubby would be the same way if I didn't bring things to his attention. A lot of things he just refuses to hear anything about. He does watch FoxNews though and likes it better than the others. A lot of the time I'm just not sure whether he agrees with the conservative (or atleast libertarian, which i'm not opposed to) view on things or if he is afraid to disagree with me and spark an argument. (we don't actually have heated arguments on anything.. just lively debate occationally) I know without a doubt that he's pro-choice but I am working on that one.
