Two more rumors bite the dust (Ride home and torn clothing just not true, sources say)
The Vail Daily ^ | 8/4/03 | The Vail Daily

Two more reports regarding the Kobe Bryant case circulating among part of the national media were debunked Monday.

Media reports that the 19-year-old woman who Bryant allegedly assaulted received a ride home is not the case, sources said Monday. Reports that her clothing was torn are also untrue, sources also.

Sources told the Daily that the alleged victim managed to get herself home by 11:50 p.m., June 30, after ending the shift at the Lodge at Cordillera at around 11:10 p.m.

They also said that while her clothing was disheveled and showed signs that something had occurred, it wasn't torn or ripped, as some reports indicated.

"Some of the reports made it sound like something out of a bad movie," said one source. "It wasn't like that."

The reports are part of a larger set of rumors and gossip that have been circulating across the country about the case. Among them:

- That the alleged victim was in the room two hours. It was only about 20 minutes.

- When she came down, she was hysterical. She was not. Sources said she was in a stupor and a state of shock.

- A few days before the incident, the alleged victim had accused another hotel worker of sexual harassment, getting him fired. Not true, said the man who was terminated. It was not the alleged victim.

Cameras in court

Eagle County Judge Fred Gannett ruled that not only is Bryant required to appear at 4 p.m. Wednesday, he also ruled Monday that there will be cameras in the courtroom.

Gannett denied a motion by Bryant's attorneys asking Gannett to reconsider an earlier order allowing one video camera and one still camera in the courtroom while Bryant is advised of the charges against him, and also advised of his rights.

Her friends DID say that; and I posted that in response to the oft repeated and redundant pastings of the statements her friends continue to make. I know that you all hate it, but there ARE two sides to every story.

Yes, you can trash the alleged victim? But why do you tell others to stop grabbing what they can to speak against Kobe, and then you post rumors about the alleged victim. It's hypocrisy. If you want to trash the alleged victim, you should accept undesirable posts about Kobe, don't you think?

What I like the most about the Kobe Haters are the way they keep patting themselves on the back for being so objective and fair, like when you posted this:

because there are only so many ways of calling someone a whore, a slut and a psycho

Pot, kettle, all that.

So you're admitting that Rita's sources are wrong, right?

Where did I say she was wrong? I don't know if she's wrong or not. I said all she's doing is relaying what her sources have told her. That all anyone is doing at this point. The Kobe supporters are getting very personal in their attacks against Rita, and all she is is the messenger.

That would have to be the case since she and she alone is the ONLY one who reported the torn clothing and bellman ride home. Either her sources are lying or she is lying. Take your pick. And she is getting trashed because she was WRONG.....as usual.

I don't know who's wrong or who's right. We won't know that until the trial. But I'll go out on as limb and say she's not deliberately lying. What would be her motive?

It was sink, Howlin, Iwo Jima versus you and cyn.

You take three impartial observers and set them against two die-hard "KB is guilty" opinionators.

The Westerfield effect requires that an "us-vs-them" mentality be maintained at all times, and you're fostering that here.

And I'm glad you're not my mother.

Hey sink, look at what Howlin said to nyconse above and then try to tell us again who's getting more emotional here.

As I'm certain you have surmised, I left these threads because I tired of talking past the "dementedly obtuse," otherwise known as the "Kobe is guilty, to hell with a trial, crowd."

I'd have to see what nyconse said. She's been a bit wired over this whole thing.

Sorry, the dog walked by and she is red. How will I get the paint off? It is nontoxic (called the vet). This made me start laughing again. I couldn't resist an admittedly feeble attempt at humor.

I wasn't complaining, I liked your dog story and could see you were trying to leave on a happy note. I think some may be too emotionally invested to make up before bedtime. :^)

You, and me, and many others.

It's the Westerfield effect, only this time all the vitriol is coming from the defenders of the accuser.

cinFLA has been reduced to pinging me back to threads because he doesn't have anybody to fight with.

Do you not think that the fact that this girl tried to take her own life 30 days before she accused this man of raping her is relevant?

Do you think that it's impossible for a girl who tried to kill herself could be raped 30 days later? Her mental state is only relevant if there is not enough physical proof to back up her claim. If it is strictly "he said/she said", her mental state before and after would, I agree, be critical. But if the physical evidence leads to no other conclusion than rape, her mental state is not relevant - otherwise there would be no conviction of rapists in mental hospitals.

Do you think it's possible to rape a stripper? Do you think it's possible to rape a prostitute? If so, why would their credibility be any better than a person who attempts suicide?

And this thread proves one thing; somebody is lying; the witnesses who, so far, have ALL being "friends of the accusers."

Actually, the one person in this whole mess who we know has lied about anything pertaining to the case is Kobe Bryant. He has admitted to adultery, and apologized to his wife on national television. Which means he almost certainly intended to keep this from her, had events not forced his hand.

You mean like the rape shield law won't permit her past history from coming in? Prepsoterous. We ARE going to hear about her mental health, you can bet that.

I wouldn't bet on it, in fact I would bet against it....impeachment is certainly allowed as well as discovery to the defense on a witnesses mental health..having that info admitted into the court will be up to the judge..what is relevant concerning her mental history? IMO-truthfullness, use of drugs prescription or otherwise that may affect her senses, memory or perception, hallucinations and similar(probably limited to any use on the day in question)..... I don't believe whether she attempted suicide or not or even if she has been diagnosed with a mental illness unless it could impact on truthfullness or perception (perceive reality) memory, and ability to relate what happened will be admitted..JMHO... don't forget doctor -patient confidentiality...
