Two more rumors bite the dust (Ride home and torn clothing just not true, sources say)
The Vail Daily ^ | 8/4/03 | The Vail Daily

Posted on 08/05/2003 10:20:49 AM PDT by Smogger

Two more reports regarding the Kobe Bryant case circulating among part of the national media were debunked Monday.

Media reports that the 19-year-old woman who Bryant allegedly assaulted received a ride home is not the case, sources said Monday. Reports that her clothing was torn are also untrue, sources also.

Sources told the Daily that the alleged victim managed to get herself home by 11:50 p.m., June 30, after ending the shift at the Lodge at Cordillera at around 11:10 p.m.

They also said that while her clothing was disheveled and showed signs that something had occurred, it wasn't torn or ripped, as some reports indicated.

"Some of the reports made it sound like something out of a bad movie," said one source. "It wasn't like that."

The reports are part of a larger set of rumors and gossip that have been circulating across the country about the case. Among them:

- That the alleged victim was in the room two hours. It was only about 20 minutes.

- When she came down, she was hysterical. She was not. Sources said she was in a stupor and a state of shock.

- A few days before the incident, the alleged victim had accused another hotel worker of sexual harassment, getting him fired. Not true, said the man who was terminated. It was not the alleged victim.

Cameras in court

Eagle County Judge Fred Gannett ruled that not only is Bryant required to appear at 4 p.m. Wednesday, he also ruled Monday that there will be cameras in the courtroom.

Gannett denied a motion by Bryant's attorneys asking Gannett to reconsider an earlier order allowing one video camera and one still camera in the courtroom while Bryant is advised of the charges against him, and also advised of his rights.

You act as if Rita Cosby is the only person who ever made a mistake with an on-air report.

If only it was her one and only. But it's not.

Actually, I asked you what YOU think, not the judge.

If your son was accused of rape and the accuser had tried to commit suicide twice within 3 months, among other things, don't you think that would be relevant?

You are asking for an emotional response. Hm... As a Mother, I would fight for my son. I would want all evidence admitted of course. would that information be relevant? I don't know. Would it sway a jury? who knows?

My son is in the doghouse-so to speak. He got a new paintball gun which he is not supposed to use near the house. We have woods in the back. However, the dog only stays in our yard and the dog has paint on her. Lucky is very insulted and has ignored Chris all evening. Chris claims it was an accident. It probably was;he loves that dog and would not hurt her on purpose. However, the paintball gun has been confiscated by MOM (AKA Hitler if you ask my son). It could be worse-at least he didn' shoot his sisters. LOL

The defenders of the accuser are in a similar position to the Westerfield defenders. The wagons are circled, and every question against the accuser is met with scorn, or contempt, or personal attack.

I think you need to look again at this thread. Read the first few posts. Rita is called every name in the book by Kobe supporters and all she's doing is relaying what her sources are telling her. I see them as being much more emotional about this than those that are pointing out the smear campaign against the alleged victim. They're not engaging in those kinds of personal attacks like the Kobe supporters are.

Of course you do. You're the third "KB is guilty" poster to say this very thing.

It just proves my point.

Stop grabbing anything you can to trash Kobe Bryant.

Your hypocrisy is incredible. Read your post #272 where you say friends say she's capable of making this up. Amazing. Can you not see the beam in your eye?

Read your post #272 where you say friends say she's capable of making this up.

Her friends DID say that; and I posted that in response to the oft repeated and redundant pastings of the statements her friends continue to make.

I know that you all hate it, but there ARE two sides to every story.

So you're admitting that Rita's sources are wrong, right? That would have to be the case since she and she alone is the ONLY one who reported the torn clothing and bellman ride home.

Either her sources are lying or she is lying. Take your pick.

And she is getting trashed because she was WRONG.....as usual.

It's too bad you think I and others "chased others away". It's not my fault if they can't buttress their arguments.

I think some of them have stopped posting on these threads because there are only so many ways of calling someone a whore, a slut and a psycho. After that, they seem to have nothing else to fall back on.

It may be an impossible task when discussing the behaviors of college freshmen and high school seniors but what I want is to come away from this trial with a logical story - one that either convinces me the accusations cannot be true or that the accusations cannot be false.

Does it make any sense that, after being raped, the accuser would spill the beans to another man, even a co-worker and possible friend? Maybe. But I thought most women found the topic so personal and private that they wouldn't just start blabbing about it.

The pro-Kobe folks kept harping on the 12-hour gap between the alleged rape and the reporting to the police as somehow proof that her story was false. I, on the other hand, saw that as a somewhat reasonable response by a woman who had just been attacked and probably didn't know how to feel about it or whether she should tell anyone.

Now that there appear to be male witnesses who will say they saw her before she left the hotel, and that she told them what happened, I find to be a little harder to accept. Some rape victims won't even tell their boyfriend or husband. I think a raped women might tell a female friend or a family member, but I don't think they would normally confide about it to male co-workers right after the fact.

I could be wrong. Maybe that would be a normal response but I find it a bit unusual.

It's going to be a long wait before trial. Thank goodness for football season.

Of course you do. You're the third "KB is guilty" poster to say this very thing.

I'm leaning toward Kobe being guilty based on what happened just after the incident and before. But I'm waiting for the physical evidence before I lean strongly in that direction.

It just proves my point.

Well, I see nyconse telling dog stories and Howlin still wanting to fight with her, so there's the latest example of who's more emotional about this.

So it took an eight-year-old child to bring 'em to their senses.... That proves something - that a gang of wild animals can be stopped, simply because they're still human. Hmp, maybe we need a police force of children. ~Atticus, Chapter 16

Bryant’s deals with Nike and Coca-Cola subsidiary Sprite remain in place, although he will not be appearing in any Sprite ads for the remainder of this year.

Makes sense. If Kobe Bryant is going to show up in your ad proclaiming "Obey your thirst", most people won't think he's referring to a lemon-lime soda.

The one place where a man ought to get a square deal is in a courtroom, be he any color of the rainbow, but people have a way of carrying their resentments right into a jury box. As you grow older, you'll see white men cheat black men every day of your life, but let me tell you something and don't you forget it - whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, that white man is trash. ~Atticus, Chapter 23

If you don't like it bite me, many of you are an unruly mob ready to hang a free man because y'all been brain washed by the liberals to believe the worst in a man rather than give them a fair balance... very, very, liberal, change parties if you are a liberal at heart.
