August 5, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - Amid talk he's being urged to jump back into the presidential race, Al Gore has arranged to speak out on Iraq to a large anti-war group at New York University on Thursday. A Gore spokeswoman insisted, "Truly, honestly, he's not planning on getting back into the race," but the former vice president's speech to the organization MoveOn should only fuel the speculation.

Meanwhile, I've been hearing over and over this morning those soundbites from Lieberman at last night's debate. And I finally figured out why his voice is so irritating.

He sounds exactly like the "grandma" voice Johnny Carson used whenever he told "old lady" jokes. Listen for it next time.

JENNIFER Lopez has reportedly dumped fiance Ben Affleck a week after he spent more than $1 million on her birthday.

The singer-actor has told friends her relationship with the 30-year-old actor is over after he humiliated her by allegedly frolicking with strippers.
Their wedding later this year has been cancelled and Lopez is no longer wearing the $2 million engagement ring Affleck gave her last year.

"It's over between me and Ben," she reportedly told a friend. "He's made me a laughing stock."

The break-up comes after America's National Enquirer printed a report accusing Affleck of cheating on Lopez, 33, with strippers at a nightclub.

This whole Ben 'n' Jen affair has me all discombobulated. But wait! Maybe the hairline-challenged Ben, the one true love of the ample-buttocked one, didn't really cavort with strippers, after all!

Christian Slater's wife, Ryan Haddon, has spoken out about their now-fabled night with Ben Affleck at a Vancouver strip club. "Ben did not cheat," she says, referring to a National Enquirer report claiming he got cozy with a stripper. "Ben was listening to music, hanging out, talking to people, that's it."

Haddon tells Us Weekly that she and Slater met Affleck and actress Tara Reid [Please, Tara, look into AA] at Brandi's Exotic Nightclub in Vancouver on July 17, and that they later invited some of Brandi's girls to join them at the house Slater was renting. [I can't tell you how many times Mr. M and I have invited strippers into our home!]

Haddon stresses that Affleck, a recovering alcoholic, never touched a drop. Us also quotes a source saying Affleck took a urine test July 29, which came back clean of drugs and alcohol. (A rep for Slater and Haddon declined comment when asked about The Enquirer's claims.)

Meanwhile, Affleck's lawyers have another fire to put out, on the Internet. A certain Web site, which shall remain nameless, purports to feature video of the shirtless "Gigli" star pleasuring himself. "This is nothing but a porn site that's trafficking in a clearly fabricated photo of my client," says Affleck's lawyer Martin Singer. "It's unfortunate that people wind up robbing people with fake photos. When we find the providers of these sites, 90% of the time they end up removing the pictures."

I did watch the mess, and what a sight! Quite honestly, her weight bothered me less than her customized Justin Timberlake concert T-shirt. She completely cut the side seams and put what appeared to be shoelaces in a criss-cross pattern up both sides, and cut a slit at the neck to reveal some cleavage. (Biker chick chic? or maybe a Detroit prom attendee?)

She went on and on about how talented and sexy Justin Timberlake is. She admitted she had his picture plastered all over her trailer and learned all the lyrics to his songs while she made 'Freaky Friday.' Jay asked her if she ever fantasized about her husband being you-know-who. Her reply went something on the order of: " Jay, you know my husband, no." (Right.) To me, this is not normal behavior for a mom, sorry. Sadly, from the sound of it, she appears to be one of those parents interested in being a friend rather than a parent.

I just couldn't believe how dippy she seemed, I've never seen her act like that in an interview.

I'm in favor of having some fun, but I thought she came off as a post-adolescent freak.

The woman accusing Kobe Bryant of rape tearfully told a bellhop minutes after the alleged attack that that she had just been "forced to have sex" with the NBA superstar, according to a new report. Friends and co-workers of the accuser told Fox News correspondent Rita Cosby that the 19-year- old hotel worker's clothing was torn when she spoke with the bellhop.

The claims could significantly bolster the charge levied by the alleged victim. It also is apparently the first time that someone has said the woman reported the alleged rape to another person immediately after her June 30 encounter with Bryant in his hotel room - instead of revealing it the next day, as had been previously believed.

That would support the idea that she did not concoct the story.

Judges in rape cases often allow testimony by third parties about so-called "excited utterances" made by an accuser right after an attack. Fox reported that Bryant's accuser, after leaving his room the night of June 30, looked "shocked and upset" when she went to the lobby of Lodge & Spa at Cordillera, according to a woman who, like the accuser, is a hotel employee.

The accuser's friends and other workers at the Edwards, Colo., hotel told Fox the accuser was driven home by the bellhop minutes later.

Friends and colleagues said the bellhop "was told immediately by the accuser that she was . . . 'forced to have sex with Kobe Bryant,' " according to Fox's Cosby. The accuser's friends said the bellhop saw the woman crying and wearing "visibly torn" clothes, according to Fox.
