The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

My great aunt and uncle live in Tucson too. She is very precious to me also. Very obstinate. Always wanting me to take her out to bars so she can dance. Wonder what I end up doing when I go to Tucson?

You know, my grandfather taught me to play poker. When I was really little

My Granny, Mama's mom, had a sister who lived in Detroit. She'd come down every 10 yrs. or so for a visit. She came when I was about 11 or 12, and she taught my sister and me, and our girl cousins how to play Canasta. She called it Clean and Dirty Canasta. She cussed like a sailor, and my saintly Granny was always fussing at her for talking like that around us. We thought it was so funny!

I dunno. But, "insane" seems a curious choice of words here.

Comments anyone?

no no no... I didn't say it wasn't OK, I just said we had to talk about it. Rule one: They have to ride without helmets at least once before they get the hard lesson on what the nanny state is all about. :-)

Oh, yeah, I'll be a great Dad someday. Safe? What's that?

WN, sometimes with guys, if you don't take the word 'insane' as a compliment, then you will just never hear compliments!

That would be "insane" as in "without boundaries" and not "insane" as is "tilting at windmills".

My mom was always horrified when my aunt would come from Tucson in the summers. She cussed like a sailor and smoked about 3 packs of Lucky Strikes a day. And I think they thought I liked her WAYYYYY too much. :-) i might of. But, she's still with us. And she hung with me through Grama's funeral.

What's most important is that you can find yourself in there somewhere on any given day!

That's easy! I'm the chubby round one.

I hadn't seen my grandmother in MA for 5 years until my trip last month.

Yeah, that's the biggest disadvantage to living so far away from family. Of course the biggest ADVANTAGE is that you don't get caught up in the day to day melodramas among the siblings and cousins!

I didn't say it wasn't OK, I just said we had to talk about it. Rule one:

OH GOOD GRIEF!

A worrier! Who numbers his worries! - You have become our father!

Well, I hope Abby remembers. I just don't get to see her and talk with her.

I was talking of being the firstborn of the firstborn etc. Abby is that. Jill is my oldest. Abby is her oldest. :-) Grama and her mom inundated me enough in the old family ways that I definitely have an exceptional bond for that child. stubborn though she is. (did not get that from sweet little me of course!)

all this talk of ancestry makes me sad... there are so many abrupt ends, and lost pearls in my family it just makes me sick... I got my mom into doin' alot of research now that she's retired, but now she's feelin' some of my frustration...

btw... my obit will definitiely contain the words: recalcitrant, drunkard, waste of skin, and Marine...

LOL!!! Ahh!!! I think I love you now!!!! This is all it takes:

They have to ride without helmets

I don't suppose you'd just let me cut the sentence of right there would you?

You must have children! You will be a wonderful dad!
