A guy mentioned the patch on the other thread, but which patch? Bear mentioned a few.

Bear, is there any info I can send you that might help you tell me which patch exactly to get?

Go to Windows update

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

And it will scan and suggest updates. If you have never done it, it may take awhile. I would recommend downloading and installing ALL Critical updates first, then go back and install most of the other recommended updates.

You can read them and tell what they are, some are more important than others.... But after this - Turn automatic update on in your machine.... I will look around for where that option is. That way you will be notified when there is a security bulletin or update that you need, and do them in little chunks.

I tried to download the pc-cillin and it says my installer isn't working which could be because I'm running windows in safe mode. How do I check that?

Hair; thanks so much for posting this, regarding the length, cut it to 3 hours and make the EE version 4 hours or whatever it takes. Heck, make em all four, we'll just have all that more to talk about. BTW, I can't believe you all cracked 4K today. Me thinks the next thread won't take as long as the last.

Evenin' everyone!

Oh 2J - I am so sorry about the virus! They are soooo nasty!

Now that Glen no longer has access to my computer, I haven't had any problems with them. Also, if you keep your Windows Updates and virus definitions up to date, you'll be good to go most of the time.

I know it's a PITA on dial-up, but it's a small suffering compared to virus infection!

Fingers crossed and prayers heavenwards for a quick-as-possible resolution to this dilemma!

Go to >>>Control Panel >>>> System >>>> Tab: Automatic Updates.

Check the box that says "keep my computer up to date..."

In the settings, check the box that says "Notify me before downloading" - that way you aren't forced into a download when you are in the middle of something else on dialup.... it will stick the reminder in your systray, and you can do it when convenient (but don't wait!) heh

Make sure you set PC Cillan to automatically update also, whereever it gives you a choice.

And I know it is expensive, but good products are... I would highly recommend buying it when your 30 days are up. You will then keep getting live updates a few times a week, or as needed whenever something new hits.

You're in Safe Mode? That changes almost everything. You won't be able to install from there.

If you have the installer downloaded to somewhere (your desktop, maybe?) then you'll want to reboot first, into the full windows.

BUT: first go back through the instructions earlier and locate the autorun virus gizmo in your registry and delete it. Hang on... lemme find that... I'll be right back...

Isn't that good news about the movie length, and the fact that even the competition wants PJ to win the Oscar? - I think that kind of recognition is deserved, from his industry, not just us geeks who all think he deserves it.

BTW, I can't believe you all cracked 4K today.
