The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Sounds like you're on the right track, and yes, just because it isn't doing it anymore doesn't mean its gone.
If your antivirus product isn't working or isn't updating, there is a very good online scanning tool at:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Keep in mind, the rogue virus process MUST be shut down before you start any scan... just to be sure.
To: Ramius
THank you! I can run that right now...the process isn't active.

Hi, 2J...I was going to do some research into your problem, but sounds like Rose and Bear already have it in hand.
Haven't been checking e-mail much, 'cause I got a horrible thumpin' headache and was in bed. Now I'm dazed from being half asleep for so long, and I still have a headache. I hate that feeling.
To: RosieCotton
Wow, you and Wn, both...sounds like you both might have a biological virus!
I hope you get to feeling better...
It'a really cloudy here and I just got the chickens in their coop.

Even less riskier I think in some cases. I am totally untouchable until *I* make the decision for the person to see me in a picture, call me, meet me, etc. If you spend enough time chatting, you know whether you are compatible or not. The scariest thing is that after developing that "attraction" online, and looking forward to the chatting and stuff, I was afraid I wouldn't have the physical attraction in person, ya know? I'm somewhat worried about the physical attraction side of things, I admit...though at this point we're still far from that state, I think. As much as we'd like to think appearances don't matter...they do. But I also know what you think of a person has a big affect on how you perceive them, if that makes any sense! In any case, I guess we'll cross that bridge if/when we come to it.
Thanks for your story!
To: 2Jedismom
Raining here, and quite steadily. Thundering a little bit, too!
I have to leave to go pick Rose up from work, so we won't be home for an hour or so. I'll check in then to see if there's any further virus news!
To: 2Jedismom
Yikes... I just read some of the updated tech details on this little bugger. It might be nastier than I had thought.
Should do wonders for sales of personal firewalls. :-)
To: RosieCotton
though at this point we're still far from that statestate=stage. Sorry...headaches make me stoopid.
To: Ramius; 2Jedismom
Didn't I read that it's intent is to hammer ping MS Window Update site with traffic and ruin their day?
It might be disrupting them even if it isn't shutting you down 2J.... Don't leave it connected unless you are going to fix it....

I couldn't get that online version to work, so I'm downloading a 30 day trial of PC Cillin. I hope it doesn't storm! It's gonna take an hour and a half!

Well, I just hope the little bugger doesn't fire up when I step away from the computer. I was very anxious about running out and getting the chickens in...sometimes they can be a bit uncooperative!
But they LOVE that scratch!

As much as we'd like to think appearances don't matter...they do. As someone who has had [ahem, cough cough] a few internet-based relationships, with varying degrees of success... I for some reason feel qualified to comment on this subject.
One thing that is undeniably true, is that your mind *will* construct an image of the other person to go along with your interaction. It simply happens and there's no way for it not to happen.
The addendum to that law of nature is that the *real* person will *always* be different from your mental construct, sometimes wildly different, and rarely will real life exceed your own idealized version of who they are and what they look like. We have an inescapable drive to idealize the facets of people that we don't know but must only imagine. It's not wrong or right, it's just the way we all think.
It's a good idea to share pictures and voices earlier, rather than later, IMHO. Both of these can be done with reasonable safety and prudence.

Aug. 18 issue Will the third and final movie in the Lord of the Rings trilogy win best film? |
|
LORD OF THE OSCARS? Peter Jackson might want to clear off his mantel. The director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which has already grossed more than $1.8 billion worldwide, is finishing part three, The Return of the King, and even without seeing a frame, Hollywood insiders consider it the front runner for a best-picture statuetteand Jackson for best directorcome Oscar time. No surprise: the first two films were both nominated. Whats remarkable is that in an industry known for vicious battles for Academy Awards, many people who plan to compete against Jacksons film secretly want him to win. Im such a fan of his, says a studio head with a film sure to be up against LOTR. Ive been waiting for the Academy to reward him for his nine-hour movie. Or it may be even longer. Theres rampant speculation about the length of the filmstill two months from completionwith reports circulating that King will clock in at more than three hours. If it does, thats not likely to matter much to fans, critics or even the studio. The first two installments squeaked in just under the 180-minute mark, and its hard to imagine they could have made any more money. (The highest-grossing film so far, Titanic, ran a butt-numbing 3 hours 14 minutes.) And while New Line head Robert Shaye shares final cut with Jackson, he has yet to meddle with the directors creative decisions. We do not talk about length, says studio COO Mark Ordesky. We talk about the film. So, apparently, does everybody else in Hollywood. They always did like a happy ending. Sean Smith

TTT Blockbuster Promo Pins 8/11/03, 3:56 pm EST - Xoanon
Uruviel from theargonath.cc writes: Blockbuster Video has some TTT DVD promotional stuff up, and also buttons that the employees wear. I was able to get 4 out of 12 of them, Gandalf, Eowyn (although they call her 'Eowin'), Theoden, and Wormtongue. The others they had are Aragorn, Arwen, Sam, Merry & Pippin, Saruman, and I assume the other 3 are Frodo, Legolas, and Gollum. [More] |
