It was a hiccup. Honest!
Heh... I was imagining a late guest come running in the door just as the candles were about to be blown out...
I had those real "active audiences" on a couple of the viewings... including this last one that included the squealer next to me. Applause at the off-heading, and at the end. At other viewings the audience was silent. I have only had to PFFFFFFT! at one "talker", and he took it seriously and never made another peep. (you should hear my Pfffft! - all dogs and teeanagers obey) - HairOfTheDog 1/28/02
No matter how good the movie, sitting down for close to 4 hours for something that is passive (as opposed to, say, an interactive PC game or surfing the Web) is tough for me - let alone the whole family! I didn't get the extended version until we got a DVD player in the Spring. We've watched most of the documentaries, and the entirely new scenes, but not the whole thing.
The great thing about LOTR is I feel like there's no rush, the movie will only improve with time as the acting is so supreme. My biggest disappointment is the fact that I only had the opportunity (mostly due to money) to see TTT ONCE in the theaters. So I'm VERY eager to see that again!
That's a precious story about your little guy, if you don't mind me jumping into this conversation.I've only been five times, but one of my sisters has been 8 or 9 times! Of course, she's still being homeschooled so has more free time than I do off at college.
I'm lucky - my Dad was a huge Tolkien fan and so I always had someone to talk to, though I don't suppose my comments, as an 11-year-old, really were that intuitive. Now both my little sisters love LotR, and all my friends are obsessed too! I tell you, it's a great time to be a fan. You think Mr. HobbitholeBoy will give tours if you ask him nicely? - JenB 1/29/02
I was also struck again by the earthiness of both the dwarves and the hobbits in comparison to the elves. From Gimli's anticipation of Morian malt beer, to Sam's lament for Gandalf's fireworks. Quite the contrast to the high borne sentiments of the elves.
And I've still got it.
But dang we're good to look at!!!
;)
Oh man...that gets me every time. And then that brief moment when we see their faces as they're carried off...they KNOW there's nothing they can do, and that Boromir is giving his life for them.Pardon me while I join the tear-fest. Ai! Poignant stuff! - RosieCotton 1/29/02
Wait'll you have a teenager.
it's "eternal envy" too LF. So, much there is to envy us for.

ROTFL - Thank you John!!
Thanks for the smiles... My fellowship has split up and gone off hunting orcs, Soldiers are preparing for war and I am desperately worried about Frodo and Sam... I must get back to my reading.

Just saw the movie again yesterday, for the 6th time! And we're just taking off from Rivendell...my 3rd reading since the movie came out.
Thanks for the ping, ecurbh!

Wait a second there! I'm probably going again tonight, the boys are going to Tiger Cubs with their dad and I can go alone.

Around here, there will always be more cake!
I knew it was in the first week of August cause we were at Perdido Key FL at SSQ's family reunion! We went to Wal-Mart at midnight to get it (and some groceries).
Could it be!!?? The very first ElfBash! in the new Hole??!!
