In a stunning display of sagacity, the German military practiced marching and driving equipment through Paris and beneath the Champs d'Elysse (literal translation "Cowardice Champions") in rehearsal for the day when American troops leave those European nations. On the same day, the French politicians painted yellow streaks on their backs, whined, and practiced throwing unloaded weapons to the ground.

TS/Hurricane Claudette is forecasted to make landfall at Matagorda Bay at approx. 8:00 pm Tuesday, per the latest National Weather Center projections.
That's approxmiately 60 mi down the coast from Galveston.
I'm sure we'll get a buttload of rain from it.

Not yet. Winds still around 65-70 mph.
Expected to be a Category 1 (75-96 mph) hurricane by the time it hits the coast.

Galveston wisely built a 17 ft. high seawall in 1960.
Most folks outside of this area don't realize that the worst natural disaster in U.S. history occurred in 1900, when a powerful hurricane (no names back then) with a 15-20 ft. storm surge struck Galveston Island and left between 6,000 and 10,000 dead (most of the bodies never found - washed out to sea).
