I won't run a single red light. Speed limits are another question

Red lights are something we all agree to obey, so we won't kill each other.

Speed limits are about raising funds for the local gooberment.

God speed you onward....

From Townhall.com:

...Prior to the Civil War there were two major political parties: the Democrats, who believed Americans should have the freedom of choice to own a slave; and the Whigs, who wanted to be the big tent party embracing free and slave states.

But on this day, July 6, 1854, a group of anti-slavery men met in Jackson, Michigan, to start a new party, demanding the Fugitive Slave Law be repealed. Their chief plank was "to prohibit...those twin relics of barbarism: polygamy and slavery." They called themselves "The Republican Party

Ah! Great minds thing alike.

In February, 1854, a meeting was held at the Secedor church in Crawfordsville, Iowa (in my home county). The participants were members of various political parties and organizations, all were more or less opposed to the extension of slavery in the United States and some favred the complete abolition of slavery. A committee was formed and withdrew to the House of all Nations (a hotel) where they drew up a compromise resolution oppsing the extesnion of slavery into new territories. The committee returned to the church, their resolution were adopted and a slate of candidates were named, and a new political party was formed.*

Although several communities - Ripon, Wisconsin and Jackson, Michigan for example - claim to the the 'birthplace' of the Republican Party. Crawfordsville was the site of the first meeting where the principles which came to be known as "Republican" were set forth. The coalition meeting at Crawfordsville didn't call itself the Republican Party, but then, neither did any other group in these early meetings. The word 'republican' wasn't applied to the new political party until June 24, 1854.

I don't want to reignite the fight, but I did think it was important to comment. My grandchildren are the 7th generation of my family to live in Washington County.

Good Morning to the Early Birds. The weather front moved thru last night and you could lay a yardstick between the rain drops on the patio surface. It's 68 degrees and another nasty, humid day is instore for us. Busy day ahead with a 4-H Foundation breakfast to fund and support local 4-H activities, a Garden Tour, and a County Fair Parade in the evening. I'll be ready to drop when I get home tonite.

I'm really looking forward to seeing a couple of the gardens on the tour.

WE got the thnuderstorms again, last night. Good morning, all.

Iowa Granny, I hope you get rain soon. For me, rain means I don't have to water flowers. For farmers, it's far more important.

Time for a rant. I was up early and watching Fox's media show with Eric Burns. A viewer had written in that President Bush's AIDS program received little coverage.

The liberals on that show said it got a lot of coverage when he announced it, but there was no follow up or accountability for this administration. They talked about how he had announced it during the State of the Union and that it got coverage then, and that was when it should have been covered.

Apparently both liberal reporters are so clueless or so anti-Bush that they failed to realize that the bill passed Congress and that Randall Tobias was named the head of the agency which will administer the program, and THAT was what the viewer was aggravated that had not been covered!

I really hate it when I am more informed than the people who are supposed to be bringing me information!

No. I am going to putter around doing yard work until it gets too hot. Then I am going to have hubby do a couple of fix-it chores inside.
