Iraq = Vietnam?

It seems that the US is getting bogged down in Iraq. The war is moving into the stage in which the US will continue to take casualties while we are trying to get the country running again.
Will we ever be able to extrecate ourselves from Iraq?

Probably the one way out would be for us to be replaced by a French-dominated an international law-enforcing police force.

The current assassinations of US military personnel is exactly how guerrilla wars start, as in Algeria and Vietnam - both of which were initiated by France, btw. :-|

It does seem to be kind of a quagmire right now. The only thing I'm hearing about Iraq recently is a few soldiers getting shot now and then. I wonder where the body count stands now. Apparently the country is difficult to manage because it is highly factionalized, by region, religion, etc., hampering central government. I don't see how the US military can reconcile all those factions except the way they're doing it now: by arresting or killing opposition leaders. Ugly business.

The US body count recently topped 200. This could come back to haunt G.W. in 2004 but I think we will get the big fish soon.

I sincerely hope you are kidding about using the French, the former Soviet Republics would be OK but but not the French.

All we have to do is locate the big fish and take them out.

Why? Wouldn't it be nice to have the French shot at instead of our friends? Well... it may not be exactly the French. They're likely to send in the Foreign Legion...
