Probably the one way out would be for us to be replaced by a French-dominated an international law-enforcing police force.

The current assassinations of US military personnel is exactly how guerrilla wars start, as in Algeria and Vietnam - both of which were initiated by France, btw. :-|

It does seem to be kind of a quagmire right now. The only thing I'm hearing about Iraq recently is a few soldiers getting shot now and then. I wonder where the body count stands now. Apparently the country is difficult to manage because it is highly factionalized, by region, religion, etc., hampering central government. I don't see how the US military can reconcile all those factions except the way they're doing it now: by arresting or killing opposition leaders. Ugly business.
