Has anybody deduced who you are from your posts?

How careful do you have to be to preserve your anonymity. I regularly watch the identifying details I reveal, thinking I could be found out? How many others do that? Has anybody been ID'd?

I've been here since 1999 with a picture on my home page, no-one I know (outside FR) has ever recognized who I am. I don't see a problem what-so-ever.

I've recognized a couple of people....I know them from another forum, and they've made essentially the same posts here that they did there, in the same words, more or less.

Things I worry about:

• I've been frank about some problems I see in my original family, but my conservative brother knows I like FR and I've posted on my Dad's PC.

• I regularly post at work, which is a liberal-loving place.

• There's a candidate I was friends with in school, and we still live in the same town, yet he doesn't appear to be a true social conservative and can't help but voice my concern.

I've been told throughout my life by various people that they "don't really know me" (I'm that quiet and reclusive), so I guess if anyone bothered to figure out my name they still wouldn't know who I am!

...every single email and newsgroup posting is being monitored by the echelon tracing system set up by Australia, the UK, and the US. I don't think they can track all the in-country stuff (yet) but they can for sure track all the international stuff.

They can record it all, but analyzing it all is the problem. Not enough manpower. So they have computer programs which sift through it all for certain key words and single out specific messages/emails for further analysis.

Those of us with sophisticated hackerware can follow the trail of your post right back through the fiber optic cables and co-ax, read your entire hard drive and reprogram your monitor to function as a camera.
