All the cartoons are really funny! Several of the ones with #97 had me ROFL!

I think JimRob (or probably JohnRob) has things set up so that you don't have to use html to do things like double-space or make links .... but if you try to do anything else in the same post or, without realizing it you use something that the system thinks is html, then it doesn't work. Does that make any sense at all?

Anyway, that might explain why sometimes your links work and sometimes they don't. They are automatic if you're just posting a link .... but some other things might cancel out the automatic feature ..... or something like that. Maybe one of the geeks can explain it better.

Anyone see the thread on John Kerry & court nominees? Kerry says he'll filibuster Supreme Court nominees who do not support abortion rights

Kerry is either stupid, subversive, or an unfathonable hack.

The complaint over the court appointments filibuster has centered on its violation of the constitutional powers of the Executive to appoint, with the Senate to "advise and consent." Kerry has gone further now by saying that he'd filibuster any nominee who won't in advance agree to uphold Roe v Wade.

It's far more insidious than the filibuster itself. Kerry is demanding that a Court nominee decide in advance of a case.

I'm tempted to say that he doesn't get it, as a more astute politician would never admit to it. Not even the most devious politician would admit it. And here Kerry says it flat out. Either way, a good constitutional slap is due the Jr. Senator of MA. He has just stood for a most wicked violation of an independent judiciary since FDR's "court packing" scheme. Not a good precedent.

I thought Kerry was pandering to the leftist baby butcherers. His numbers are slipping in Iowa, and pandering of this sort is the kind of thing that will make his numbers soar again.

... then he's just a hack. Whatever his motivation, he's advancing an abhorrent idea. Everyone loves to hate the courts, but none must deny the courts their legitimacy that is entirely dependent upon their independence from other branches of government.

Gore did not have to concede the '00 election, but he did. He must be credited for it, once the SCOTUS settled the stupidities. Sure, he and the Dems have kept it as an issue, but not even Gore was willing to make it a policy. What Kerry will do for the nomination, he'll do elsewhere, including in his present job in the Senate.

It's a violation of his oath of office.

Lol! I suppose there's not much currency these days ensuring that a Member of Congress obey the oath of office. It's been some time since that one, for both parties... I'll stick with the one that comes closer to it.

Going back to my posts the other day about Federalism, this is not yet a lost cause. It's ever been a problem, starting with Madison's famous complaint about Congress voting monies for a destitute French compatriot (that no where in the Constitution could he find the power of benevolence), and onward through the late 19th century to the Missouri Senator who stood eloquently against Federal expenditures to fight "hoof and mouth" disease. Just after giving his speech, an aide rushed in and whispered something. He immediately rose to recant his speech. Seems the Governor had wired instructions to vote for the money, as the disease had suddenly hit Missouri.

Most of these extra-constitutional fundings yet today are funelled through the States, a concession to federalism. Welfare reform, for example, was meaningless without the States. It was a release from standing federal rules, which allowed the States to set their own. The Congress "grants" monies for the States to spend. That's the constitutional caveat, and, sadly, it works. It always has, and it always will.

This bit about asking a judge to decide a case in advance goes far beyond.

They are going to re-look at a couple of likely prospects today. Meanwhile they are working on the mortgage pre-approval and stuff like that.

It is very hard not to give too much advice on this. I have always been interested in houses and yards, so I have an interest in this just as a bystander, let alone as a mom and grandmom.

Meanwhile, my sisters are so eager to have them on this side of town that they are all calling me with houses they have seen on the market. LOL!

It's coolish this morning. The Asiatic Lilies are beginning to open,, they will stay nice for quite some time if the weather stays cool.
