I'm not an alarmist, but let's face it: We live in a far more dangerous world since 9/11. The possibility of a rogue Nuclear strike is a real possibility, and I for one don't want to be unprepared. So, I ask you for your advice: What are the most reputable "nuclear shelter/survival" web sites? What are the least reputable websites? What area of our country is least vulnerable to a strike? What are some tips you would give for basic survival in such a situation.
If you are an engineer, scientist, etc., please feel free to post your information.

hehehe, all I know is they shoot. I can tell the difference betwen a 22 rifle, 12 ga, 16 ga & 410, oh...and a 30-06 (that's a cool rifle)...beyond that, I'm lost. :o)
Besides, if you were aiming it at someone I don't think they'd care if you had the name wrong! :o)
I believe if I were so inclined, I'd look into the purchase of a used shipping container, [8x8x20 feet and on up, at prices starting around a grand; available insulated or not] do a little pricing of high-efficiency HEPA air filters and begin thinking how I'd stock such a redoubt, how many I figured to have along for the stay inside, and how long until I felt like coming out.Prices begin in the neighborhood of $1000 or so; it can be the transportation of a dry van, as much for an empty as a full one, that can kick the price way up.
Those can all be affected by seasonal and political variables, of course, but a dry van shipping container or former railcar seems like a good start outside of a prefabricated purpose-built structure.

Key points in my opinion is to be long term self reliant for basics of food , water , shelter , medicine and local transportation and self defense from looters/rioters.
Second and major point is not to be near a "primary" target. Be very small, and in the event of an attack get smaller, stay out of sight and exist till the infastructure is back up and running.....even if it is just local.
Unless yer near a first strike capable military target I'd throw the money spent on a gopher hole into self reliant materials and gear.
What do ya need to buy........walk out back and turn off your water, electric and gas and discover how to heat and cool your home. How to purify and obtain water. How to cook, store and grow your own food. Hygene, sewage, ect ect...... consider this task to be around 6 months if our nations utilities are down from an attack....worst case in my opinion.
