OUTSPOKEN antiwar celebs have been curiously quiet since the swift success of Operation Iraqi Freedom. But it looks like they're just biding their time for another major outburst.
Martin Sheen, Sean Penn, Janeane Garofalo, the Dixie Chicks, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon and others kicked up a huge fuss over the Iraqi invasion. They've all gone eerily silent. But "M*A*S*H*" star Mike Farrell, organizer of Artists United to Win Without War, says no one's hiding in shame.
In fact, he claims the "huge coalition" of peace-loving Hollywood types is gearing up for another battle over the administration of post-war Iraq and future "pre-emptive" strikes in other countries.
"What's the point of me saying anything right now, while they're in the end zone doing the dance and spiking the football?" Farrell told Reuters on Sunday. "They [White House officials and war supporters] are going to do the thing they are going to do, but we'll be heard from when it's appropriate and in the manner that is appropriate."
Garofalo, who made the talk show rounds with her anti-President Bush views before the war started, has lately refused most interview requests. But last week she claimed her unpopular stance has actually helped her career.
"Before this I was a moderately well-known character actress," she told the Washington Post. "Now, I'm almost famous."
A rep for Penn, who went on an embarrassingly ill-advised "fact-finding mission" to Iraq, said he isn't granting interviews. Sheen's publicist said the star, who riled his bosses at "The West Wing" with un-American utterings, is "not talking to anybody right now."
But Farrell notes: "The Dixie Chicks are back on the air, and their record is number one again. Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon are not going to stop making movies for a long time. Janeane Garofalo has a [TV] pilot going forward. These ugly-mouthed people [e.g., radio stations that yanked the Dixie Chicks] like to think they are more powerful than they are."
UCLA film and TV producers-program founder Prof. Howard Suber agrees we haven't heard the last of the Hollywood peace crowd. "To suggest they've been muzzled I think is bull," he says. "They've just got nothing to say. Once the deed is done there's nothing to say until the next time."

What a wonderful picture!! It sure shows up the lie of the "Americans are shooting Iraqis in the street" cries in the Arab media!

I thought it was Garafolo at a protest.Do you remember the thread about Janeane Garofolo being interviewed by Brian Kilmeade? There was an audio link, and before I knew who it was, I thought it was Hillary. They sound JUST alike!! No wonder I never liked to listen to Garofolo!

I took swimming lessons at the downtown Pittsburgh YWCA when I was a kid, but have noticed in recent years that it seems to be all about feminism, diversity and the like. Even their
website proclaims: "The YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh is a women's membership movement committed to the economic empowerment of women and girls and the elimination of racism." I don't know why they bother keeping that long since irrelevant "C" in their acronym any more.
To: mountaineer
Yuck. We only have a YMCA here, (Where I took swimming lessons as a kid) and they seem to have stayed on message.

There was a thread last year on FR about Hillary! not washing her hair. I was accused by some of being mean to Hillary!, after all she was so busy "serving" and "working" for the people. Please. I work in the computer industry, but I manage to have clean hair daily, and wear makeup. It doesn't take that long to put effort into looking nice. I think it just shows the contempt she has for people who she talks to.
And I've also been accused of being catty for talking about her appearance. For me, it is the whole package. Her appearance (bad at times with unkempt hair and no makeup) contrasts with her appearance for the masses on books, TV, etc. For me, everything about Hillary! and Bill are lies, including their appearance.

I found that article highly interesting. Thanks for posting it. If the New York magazine isn't interested in publishing an excerpt, then who would be? And I loved the zinger at the end about Bill's book not selling.
To: BigWaveBetty
I didn't hear Hillary!'s whole speech, but I did see an excerpt from it on MSNBC last night on Joe Scarbrough's show. Unfortunately, he didn't include the shrieking part, but the other part scared me too. These words were coming out of her mouth, they sounded rational, but all the while she was surveying the audience with those dead eyes of hers. I was reminded of an alligator surveying their prey. It was spooky.

Bring your PIAPS rants here,
where they are fully appreciated
and supported whole-heartedly.
Cheers.

Subject: 1943 vs. 2003
The Entertainers of 2003 have been in all of the news
media lately. It seems News Paper, Television and
Radio has been more than ready to put them and their
message before the public.
I would like to remind the people of what the entertainers
of 1943 were doing, (60 years ago). Most of these brave men
have since passed on.
Alec Guinness (Star Wars) operated a British Royal
Navy landing craft on D-Day.
James Doohan ("Scotty" on Star Trek) landed in
Normandy with the U.S. Army on D-Day.
Donald Pleasance (The Great Escape) really was a
R.A.F. pilot who was shot down, held prisoner and
tortured by the Germans.
David Niven was a Sandhurst graduate and Lt. Colonel
of the British Commandos in Normandy.
James Stewart flew 20 missions as a B-24 pilot in Europe.
Clark Gable (Mega-Movie Star when war broke out) was a
waist gunner flying missions on a B-17 in Europe.
Charlton Heston was an Army Air Corps Sergeant in Kodiak.
Earnest Borgnine was a U.S. Navy Gunners Mate 1935-1945.
Charles Durning was a U.S. Army Ranger at Normandy.
Charles Bronson was a tail gunner in the Army Air Corps.
George C. Scott was a U.S. Marine.
Eddie Albert (Green Acres TV) was awarded a Bronze
Star for his heroic action as a U.S. Naval officer
aiding Marines at the horrific battle on the island of
Tarawa in the Pacific Nov.1943.
Brian Keith served as a Marine rear gunner in several
actions against the Japanese on Rabal in the Pacific.
Lee Marvin was a Marine on Saipan when he was wounded.
John Russell was a Marine on Guadalcanal.
Robert Ryan was a U.S. Marine who served with the
O.S.S. in Yugoslavia.
Tyrone Power (an established movie star when Pearl
Harbor was bombed) joined the Marines, was a pilot
flying supplies into, and wounded Marines out of Iwo
Jima and Okinawa.
Audie Murphy, little guy from Texas, Most Decorated
serviceman of WWII.
I wish I had room to tell you more about Actor
Sterling Hayden and an actor by the name of Peter J.
Ortiz (Twelve O'clock High, Rio Grande and The Wings
of Eagles), but this would turn into a book.
There is quite a huge gap between the heroics and
patriotism in 1943 and the cowardly despicable
posturing of the Hollywood crowd of today...all of
which smack of sedition and treason.
Think about this every time you are tempted to go to
the movies or go to a concert!! Don't do it!

May 1, 2003 -- President Bush's wild ride onto the deck of an aircraft carrier today will be a hair-raising experience - even for the former fighter pilot.
"He'll be coming down onto an area the size of a football field at 130 mph with the after-burners going," said Jim Buren, a 30-year Navy veteran with the Virginia-based Flight Safety Foundation. "That's quite an experience."
Bush will be sitting in the co-pilot's seat of a 53-foot, $27 million Navy S-3B Viking jet when it makes a tailhook landing on the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Pacific Ocean.
White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said Bush would not pilot the jet as it roars onto the deck.
But the president, a former aviator, could easily talk his hosts into giving up the controls over the Pacific, Buren said.
Bush, who learned to fly F-102 jets while in the Texas National Guard, will address the nation tonight from the deck of the carrier.
The jet, dubbed Navy One for today's flight, will cruise at 20,000 feet at about 400 mph, Buren said. Then, as it approaches the carrier, it will slow down to about 130 mph. "[Bush] will be quite impressed," said Buren.
A Navy spokesman called the plane extremely safe and said that since 1974, Vikings have had only 38 crashes or major mishaps in 1.6 million flight hours.
But Vikings have been in fatal crashes - in September, one went down in the Caribbean with three servicemen on board.
The carrier itself has an impressive safety record: During Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Abraham Lincoln handled 12,700 takeoffs and landings without mishap.

I love this! President Bush landing on an aircraft carrier, riding shotgun.
I went to a dermatologist this morning, who gave me a whole bunch of stuff for my face. I asked him about the Philosophy skin care, he said it would be OK to use as soon as my rash goes away. So I just ordered some. I'll let you know how it works.

Bush will be speaking at 9:00pm tonight.
In case you were wondering, yes the live thread was started at 1:44 pm. It's imporant to give you all a 7 1/4 hour heads up in case you want to chat about his historic speach that hasn't happened yet.
