AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 828) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | April 28, 2003 | All of Us

Posted on 04/28/2003 4:16:10 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!

Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

Ten Iraqis have filed a complaint in a Belgian court accusing Gen. Franks of war crimes in Iraq. Belgium has a law that allows their courts to try war crimes committed by anyone anywhere in the world - "universal jurisdiction" as it is called by some. The United States is warning Belgium if the case is taken up it will have serious diplomatic repercussions.

Heard much from the Hollywild left lately? Probably not. Most of the anti-war stars have decided to beat a solid retreat in the face of a lightning quick war with broad support across the country.

The Unitd States is considering moving its main mid-east air command center from Saudi Arabia to Qatar.

And today is, or was, Saddam's birthday.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Great stuff, Mr. Chair. I'm wrong, "property" does appear, and four times... oops.

What I was aiming for is while Maher thought that "the right to privacy" was in the Bill of Rights, he probably hasn't a clue that "property rights" are fully and explicitly detailed in the Fifth Amendment. The Takings Clause is the bastion of free society. The difference between us and the rest of the world, including Europe, is the Takings Clause.

I suppose the 1st and 2nd amendments back it up, but the Fifth is supreme (just like with Beethoven).

I'll have to try and dig up my paper sometime.

I'd love to see it.

My daughter's class was given an exercise. The premise was that aliens had landed from outer space and taken over, but the people were allowed to have three of the original ten Amendments to the Constitution. Their (the student's) job was to pick the three and justify.

When my daughter and I discussed, I said the first three - without hesitation. I explained my logic as follows: The First Amendment's freedom of speech, assembly, and press clauses could be used to rally people to the cause of getting rid of the aliens.

The Second Amendment - well, gee, if they're going to be stupid enough to allow me to pick any three, then I'm going to pick one that will allow me to arm and shoot them.

And the Third Amendment will keep them from dispersing among the population by preventing them from quartering their forces in civilian homes, thus improving the chances of targeting them with the weapons available from the Second Amendment, being used by rebel forces properly organized due to the First Amendment.

Once the aliens were routed, the other Amendments can be restored.

Jim, Mark. You guys gotta help. I'm pleading here. I've been trying to find a fine dining establishment in Cheyenne, Wyoming via various search engines. I may be able to program on bare metal with toggle switches, but I don't get along with search engines. Please. Help me stop the insanity. Find a link to what passes for fine dining in Cheyenne, Wyoming (assuming it exists).

#165..If it exists, I sure missed it....
..of course, when I was there, most of the restaurants were closed, and we had to settle for a cattle type restaurant, where my husband tried the 'buffalo burger'....:^

There was nothing going on in that town.....the biggest excitement, it seems,is in July during the rodeo.

If I have the second amendment freedom, given by God Almighty, and documented in the Constitution, then the others follow. Including freedom of speech, and freedom from quartering soldiers.

Where I split with many conservatives is on restoring the rights of felons who have served their time. Either they should be in prison, or they should be fully restored, and allowed to defend themselves. The thought of a misdemeanor conviction resulting in forced disarmament is just wrong.

Give it up. There is NOTHING - repeat NOTHING - in Wyoming except miles and miles of miles and miles of NOTHING.

I mean, when you look up "NOTHING" in the dictionary, there's a diagramatic representation of Wyoming next to it.

We're talking about a state that has so much NOTHING in it, it has less people than Alaska (no kidding!).

Seriously - I don't know about Cheyenne, but if it's like the southwest and central parts of the state, it'll be pretty slim pickins.

No disagreement here. (Though in Virginia, I'm pretty sure it takes a felony conviction rather than a misdemeanor.)

LOL! There was a rumor from one of the Sgts that there was one upscale place in downtown Cheyenne. He never went because it was over $50/cover. (He thought Applebees was fine dining. Har!)

Since I'm going to be there next month, I want to find some chefs to meet. I guess I can get there and call all of the bars and find out where the chefs congregate. Because they WILL congregate at one particular bar.

By federal fiat, a misdemeanor conviction of certain types renders one unable (by law, not right) to posess firearms.

misdemeanor conviction of certain types

Ok, certain types. Gotcha.

But we do agree that when a debt to society is paid, it is paid. Rights should be fully restored.

The Gobbler was a hoot! I can't stop laughing, the decor was so awful. I can't decide which is my favorite room, but I especially liked the shag carpet in all the rooms that managed to crawl up the walls.

Rights should be fully restored.

Correct. Some conservatives think that once convicted, forever punished. Voting rights, firearms rights, free association should all be restored. I don't think much of the parole concept. Forgiveness after atonement is biblical. Holding grudges is not.

Here's something by a blogger I try to stay current with, Dean Esmay. It's a simple piece, but does say a lot, I think.
A Question for Jeff Jarvis

If a Mormon believes that cigarette smoking is sinful, is that Mormon a hateful bigot?

If an Evangelical Christian believes that drinking alcohol is sinful, is he a hateful bigot?

If a Catholic believes that sex outside of marriage is a sin, is he a hateful bigot?

If an Orthodox Jew believes that masturbation is sinful, is he a hateful bigot?

If a Buddhist believes that all war is bad and there is no justification for any war, ever, is he an intolerant bigot?

Okay. So why is it that if a Presbyterian thinks homosexuality is sinful, he's a hateful bigot?

While I am definitely a fan of Jeff Jarvis, I have to ask him: why shouldn't I think he's a hateful bigot for his obvious contempt and intolerance toward people whose religious views he doesn't share?

Maybe being a former Presbyterian gives him a right to be so harsh. Then again, I'm a former Presbyterian too, and I don't have such contempt for my former coreligionists. I wonder why he does. I mean, if you disagree, there's a very simple solution: don't be a Presbyterian. I found that an awfully easy solution myself. Not a single person tackled me on my way out the door and tried to force me to stay.

I thought that, you know, in a pluralistic and liberal society, we were supposed to respect each other's religious views. Including ones we disagreed with.

By the way, I shouldn't have to say this, but: I don't think any of the above-mentioned behaviors are sinful. Except, perhaps, for the bile-spewing toward people who don't share my religious views.

John:

The closest I could come up with is that there is this thing called 'Rodeo Days' in Cheyenne (or Laramie, I can't remember), which has unlimited beef bar-B-Q and unlimited beer...that is as near as 'fin dining' in Wyoming as I could come up with...;-)

I forgot to ask, how did your visit go today at the dentist? Is everything OK?

And Happy Birthday to your daughter. 15 years old. Wow.

I am simply avoiding what could be a very unpleasant confrontation, all because I don't like jazz.

Please go back and re-read the posts. Again, it's not about whether or not you like jazz and how you ever got to thinking it was is something I'd like explained.

It was, instead, my attempt to point out false statements you made. Initially, in fact, I was agreeing with you, but trying to be more accurate in saying that what you seemed to be describing - no recognizable melody and no rhythm - is free jazz, not improvisational jazz. Since I happen to know something about the difference -- and yes, I do like some and not others -- I thought it would be fine to point that out. Apparently I was mistaken.

Unlike some people, I have learned that not everything I think should be posted.

Since you've learned to not post everything you think, I assume you did intend to post this statement and thought it out. Seems a bit personal to me, but maybe I'm now the one taking it in a way not intended.

At any rate, I again say it's fine to like or dislike whatever you want. But if it's a matter of taste, no reasons are really necessary. Making false statements or inaccurate statements isn't the same thing. I just tried to point out the inaccuracies.

And for pete's sake, I was not trying to MAKE you like jazz or put you down for not liking it.
