Just after college I was given one of the first "scare manuals" about running out of natural resources. It was put out by a group of "scientists" from all over the world calling themselves "The Club of Rome"

It was a pretty big event.....all the scientists uniting to tell us when we would run out of resources, food, and begin to pollute ourselves to death. And when was this supposed to start happening?

The late 1980's..........still waiting for an apology for their being wrong....

Every concerned "scientist" with half a brain (which seems to be a common malady--they can forecast population growth but think everything else is fixed) has been forecasting imminent doom since the days of Thomas Malthus. Of course, such forecasts help bring in the grant dollars whereas finding the world a wonderful place leaves one unfunded.
